View Full Version : refitting gtt windscreen
Ok when my r5 comes back i need to refit the screen. From what i remmber theres an inner seal that just sits around the edge of the actual car frame.
Then im thinking degrease the windscreen and bonding area.. then windscreen sealant in, then windscreen on.. then outer seal just pushes into place ?, sound about correct? ?
dj, i would pay to get it done :)
well i would, but then im thinking im paying somebody to litrally put sealant in a window frame n stick it in , i think thats all there is to it at least.
I imagine the main cost is in the removal and replacment of broken glass etc.
I watched mine get done and it does look very easy, but for the sake of £40, i was covered for any leaks, or cracks due to bad fitting, last thing you want is water creaping in and sitting in the corners, we all no thats a r5 weakspot, jmo.
Personally I wouldn't mess around doing it myself for what it costs :)
fair cop guys, thats what i will do.. just called £45, come to my house and do it spec.

good bead of sealent and itl be fine surely? My gt obviously had a replacement screen along the line sometime and whoever fitted it didnt do a brilliant job, seal is terrible, will be coming out soon to take care of a patch of rust there, grrrr
As philg said, let the pros do it, had mine done couple of weeks bk,
And mines covered if it leaks. :)
Me and Ashy fitted mine. its a doddle with two people. do a trial run without sealant , get your eye in and you will be fine. The original outer seal is a great way to make sure its lined up properly. i:agree: used sikaflex purchased from ebay.
Has anyone got any advice on removing the screen from my 5 without cracking it.
I havent got the first idea how to start-anyone fancy writing me a quick dummies guide please??:D

Remove seal from inside car.
get washing up bottle diluted with water to keep the job lubricated.
disposable ratchet cutting knives , type you get from any diy shop or even a couple of Stanley knives. The ratchet type means you get more blade in to cut the rubber seal away.
Cut the seal from inside the car. Use the washing up liquid to squeeze where you are cutting, keep it wet and use sharp blades. Take your time and don't put any pressure o:)n the glass until you have cut right through the rubber. Clean off majority rubber from surfaces. If you use primerless sikaflex you don't need to remove all the rubber although i did.
