on the verge of building a replacement system for the jc5 box , got a spare block in garage to dummy fit /make template for gearbox conversion plate etc,i'm just wondering which route i should go:scratch:
- vag 02j 5 speed
-vag 02m 6 speed
-ndo 6 speed
the engines in the boot and there is a bit more room to play with.:)
like the idea of keeping it all renault with the ndo 6 speed box from the megane r26 ,with the added benefit of slip diff , but unsure of gearbox strength, although k tec sell a clutch kit for it thats rated to 385ftlb, but again is there any proof that the box will take this and more, what power will the 02j/m take straight out the box so to speak or do they need pulling apart and uprating to handle 380-400ftlb, also read they are bit slow on syncro/gear change ,can anyone confirm this, last but no means least, can i get a way with the gear stick/selector cable system, with the engine/box siting behind me, ie can it be stripped and internals spun through 180 degrees so it will work backwards so to speak:laugh:
will have to get some new cables made, but thats no real hardship:)

any help or thoughts would be of great help before i part yet again with more money!!:laugh:

6speeds are always alot bulkier/heavier and imo not really needed.

was my first thought too, stick with 5, in my opinion you generaly only need more gears if you are after a higher top end without compromising acceleration (however aerodynamics is likely to be a bigger issue than gearing here) or if you need closer ratios due to engine not having a very large rev range where it is producing good power like on deisel engines designed for high torque

I'm currently fitting the ndo box. It is big but I'm pretty sure it will hold really well.

If the NDO box is from the R26, then I guess it will be the same in the R26R. RS tuning have an R26R and its producing nearly 500 BHP, not sure what sort of power you want to achieve, but it gives you an idea I suppose!
