Took my car for a run today and noticed the clutch pedal has about an inch of free play in it. I can't remember it being like that before I put it in the garage over winter.

Does this sound like the cable is on its way out and will snap soon? Or am I being paranoid?

as far as cables snapping are concerned they can either just snap with no notice or before they snap,a few weeks before say you can here strands just breaking, had that before but still got a few hundred miles out of the cable...:D

if unsure fit a new one or examine the old one at either ends.
:)

and give the clutch pedal a good look over.

here you go adam-

a good strong length of nylon cord is your friend for pulling it up into the grommet location, and put some grease of washing up liquid on the new grommet much easier to push it home then.

as a lot of things watch how you take of and replace it in reverse.
make notes to if unsure.
