GearBox Repairs

Ok I jokingly put a post about pulling apart a gearbox in the general chat section but now I've got the box apart I'm having trouble finding what went wrong.

First off the symptoms, the box made a loud grinding noise and slowly loss more and more drive till it had no forward drive at all, reverse still worked but nothing forwards, now before anyone says it THE CIRCLIP HAS NOT POPPED OUT, I

usually its the bearings that destroy themselvs, do the gears look like they have touched the casing where the bearings sit?

dunno why there's two threads, only pressed post once, the other thread has pictures of the damaged bits.

bearings look mint btw and no evidence of gear to casing contact
