View Full Version : Need a half decent daily / Alfa Romeo 147 ?
Ok i have kept and driven both the 9 and the 19 for years .Its been an emotional decade with so many unexpected break downs as you would expect from old cars especially if they are french . Recently i have been looking into something a bit more luxurious , nicer looking (not necessarily modern looking) both on the inside and outside.
There is a black 182 on a 02 plate local to me going for 1900quid but looking at it makes me want to cut my wrists ,Its funk Ugly :disagree:
I always liked Alfa Romeo models and particularly the 147 models as they are a bit more in my buying range looking at e-gahey prices .
Anyone had any experience with Alfa Romeos on here ? People say they rot badly etc etc but thats something from 80s ,Surely they cant be that bad for rust these days ?
They come with 1.6 and 2.0 litre engines which dont seem to have a major difference in MPG but a lot in power .
I am thinking of a nice black one like this .I am thinking of anything from
2001 to 2004 model which are in the price range of 1500 to 2500 quidos depending on condition ,milage ,trim etc .

The older generation alfa's had good engines and crap bodies. The new generation have crap engines and good bodies. Personally i would stir clear unless it has full service history and get someone who's had one to take it for a test drive. I used to love alfa's but not know.
I am not looking to buy one to drive as hard as i drive my Renaults .
It will have an easy life , mainly 2 x 15 mile journeys a day .
Is there anything in particular to look for on the mechanical side of things ?
Do they suffer with things like immobiliser problems as clios do ?
Lol , might be worth buying a rolling 147 shell and convert it to run renault running gear engine (f7r,f4r) etc :p
id steer clear. my sisters fella is a big alpha fan, they have 3 of the newer gens.. at the moment none are running.. very tempremental, electrics are a nightmare, and when you get service parts its like stabbing in the dark as they just cahnged from day to day.

Worst cars ever, if you gave me an alfa I'd give I away, I wouldn't touch one.
Clarkson says your not a petrol head if you've never had an Alfa... Perhaps it's because you have to experience the absolute aids ridden sh1t to know what's truly good.

I had a 156 for 3 days before the engine had smashed the bottom end to peices, the electrics were temperamental though it looked good and it was rotten underneath. Had a local Alfa specialist come to mine to access the damage and said that the previous owner had run it low on oil, they all the t spark engines apparently burn it off as normal and it doesn't get noticed untill it's too late. I wouldn't have another tbh

I was actually looking at the same model before I got my current car, decent price, look half decent etc....Adam made me promise to get the thought out of my head after he finished laughing at my stupid idea :ashamed: Apparently cheap for a reason
