A bit of help if you wouldnt mind chaps, opinions please...I overtook a car on the way back from work this afternoon and shortly after i noticed a constant very very faint squeak coming from the drivers front wheel (50-60 mph), also when your slightly turning round a fast right hand bend the steering wheel feels as if im holding a drill or grinder (not a vibrating but more a metal on metal brakepad worn type feel) and at the same time when i let off and get that feel it makes a noise similar to the fuel pump, it has brand new ebc pads and newish 21 txi discs, its a weird sensation but im struggling to find a way of describing it, i thought wheel bearing but i replaced the bearing about two years ago and this is different symptoms to when the bearing went also the shaft was replaced for a new genuine at the same time, one thing i will say is the m.o.t tester said when it was on full lock the drivers shaft had a slight clunking, could lack of grease in the cv joint cause these symptoms as i did have a pin hole in it not so long back and i think it may be dry inside, any advice taken and much appreciated.

Well first thing is find if there is any grease in the joint.

second, just because you replaced the bearing 2 years ago doesn't mean it's mint, mine kills bearings every 6 or 7 months, they don't always show the same symptoms either, while you've got it in the air sorting the cv joint give the wheel a good wobble, see if there's any play.

You said youve replaced the pads recently, might be worth checking to see if there still seated right in the caliper.

At a guess I'd say wheel bearing, but could be the cv joint? Hard to diagnose without looking.

That is true, cheap wheel bearings never last 5 mins.

Thank you all for the advice, its all sorted now, i cut the old cv boot off and stretched a new one over with the top half of a 1.5 litre coke bottle (as i dont have a cv boot cone). Packed it with the sachet of grease and clipped it up, took it for a twenty mile round trip and no more squeaking, funny steering or fuel pump type noises, thought id write it on here for other peoples future reference, again thanks for the replies chaps.
