First post!

Hi just joined the site.

Im just after some views on the 21 turbo, i know a fair amount about the 5 gt turbo but is there any 21 turbo owners here? what is the parts avalibility like? and how reliable are they, with any old car i dont expect great reliability, i expedt this along with little commen faults that can easiy be fixed im more intrested in major things that go wrong and are hard to source parts to fix etc, im handy with spanners and know my way around an engine and i always keep ontop of maintaince.

Do they use a carb or injection? are they as easy to tune as the renault 5 gt turbo, ie if you uprated the head gasket bigger ic and turbo can you wind the boost up much on them?

i know im not a full member and this may evern be the wrong section but as im not a renault owner at this time im just looking for some advice and information prior to buying one, i can assure you if and when i do get a reanault turbo i will be subscribing for the full membership.

i hope i dont come across as another anoying noob with questions you have heard 1000 times, but i will really appriciate any replys i may get and look forward to sticking around here.

thanks

ash.

Get joined up matey, if not just for the crack. As for the 21's, they are va bloody good car, very reliable in standard guise and about 170bhp. Normally have full leather. Full injection setup, which can be messed with, although standalone would see you better. The head is restrictive, but with a little work, better turbo and bigger injectors, nearly 300bhp has been advertised as achievable.

good cars ,, 175 bhp ,, later ones have coil packs and are 12valve ,, cloth seats is std ,, leather was a ad on ,, strong engines ,, parts arnt cheap ,, make sure gearbox is ok ,, not the best handling cars but that can be sorted ,, quadras are fun

Later cars sometimes known as phase 3's, they had twin coilpacks but were still 8 valve. These were also fitted with catalytic converters. and ran a slightly higher compression ratio.

Black leather was standard but a no cost option was the grey velour seats.

Good clean straightline fun .Comfortable and with more than enough power .Mines a phase3 with a few mods that should see it around 250 ......Not the best std handling is an understatement though ,they understeer like hell .
We use it as a school run type daily driver ,always starts, apart from the usual problems with the French battery drain option .Gets a good blast down the motorways every now and then and it seems perfectly happy .

Tell us a bit more about this quaddie?

12valve conversions have been done before but are few and far between. They use the 12 valve head from the txi 2 or 2.2 litre models they would need a custom exhaust manifold.

Got a few pics of the car and engine bay would be nice to see?

i would try and have a go in one first.

they have a great top end, but always found the acceleration somewhat lacking.

considering how many 21 turbo owners we know about, how many people can hand on heart say, they have SEEN a quick one? - not just heard about....

Mine certainly felt quick at 25psi on the way home after buying it :sad2: I quickly tured it down innit .
I agree they are not the quickest off the line .We've done some head to head tests @ Bruntingthorpe with the RAOC ......I've left my GTA's latest figures there for you ref ;) If you can find another 2k it might be worth a look at one ......

I haven't confirmed this with the manufacturers but the figures for the unmodified cars would seem to suggest a correction factor of approx 6% to 7% for the power figures due to the wet surface.

For example that would put the 400GT output closer to 390 bhp
