View Full Version : Soft pedal conversion- help needed!
Today I took the old clutch lever out of the gearbox and went to fit the extended Volvo version.
But.....
The end of the new extended arm doesn't slot into the new clutch release bearing like the shorter arm did.
In fact, it doesn't get anywhere near engaging.
Anyone got any ideas or is there an easy fix??:-)

Is your fork a pressed stell item of does it look like a large cast item with triangular fingers on it?
Ermmmm.... Now I am showing my stupidity as I don't really know.
Would a pic help?
i've also this conversion installed, i fitted a larger release bearing.

If it is defo a Volvo one it will be pressed steel. If its Renault it will be cast like mark said and too thick to fit into bearing. I had the same problem and ended up cut and shutting them together:D
In the end I got the angle grinder out and just nipped a small bit of the metal away until it engaged in the bearing.
Thanks for the replies :)

under: An alternative using Renault parts
But I've just added a further paragraph to make it doubly clear :) called, "The arm won't fit the bearing".
Thanks for you words that I've re-used :)
The guide is much clearer now Ian :agree: Thanks
To be honest I wasnt sure what fork I had received as I bought it from the classifieds on here.
I wish I had bought the 172 release bearing now instead of getting the angle grinder out
the only issue i have with a volvo long arm is that it fouls a double cap...:crap:
As in the 10 year old article:
"Note: this conversion is not compatible with some intercoolers. As far as the author knows so far: GTTuning double capacity = no. Standard 5GTT = yes. Pace = yes. K-Tec larger capacity = yes, clearance = 5mm. Any intercooler that is deeper than the standard by more than a few mm, perhaps beyond 10mm max, will not fit as it fouls the longer bracket and possibly lever too."
People agreed at the time, the GT Tuning may have had a lower pressure loss but didn't cool better than, eg, the Forge / Ktec.
i have a k-tec D/C ,and it fouls that, did try moving the location hole at time of fitting clutch but was still catching, maybe will try a little harder, was thinking of grinding a small amount of metal off the corner of the arm...
that or fit my fmic..:):agree:
I had a Ktec in two cars with the Volvo arm and it cleared by 5mm.
Maybe the size has varied. I can't guess.
i'll have another look soon, when me an kris M done my clutch we just stuck in a standard cooler for a temporary fix.
:)
