I dont know what it is about the 5 but it seems to get loads of attention and respect from people compared with other cars i have owned, last summer i parked the car at a petrol station next to a red ferrari (dont know which they all look the same to me) and a white lambo, upon coming out of the garage there is a crowd round the 5 and a couple of miffed looking rich guys,
also had a group of kids in hoodies come up to me in a carpark, thankfully they werent on the rob just wanted to tell me how cool the car was,
then a couple of days ago i replied to a post on a fiesta forum for mk1&2's i go on about what cars you have
http://xrtwo.speedcentral.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=99493
loads of nice and pretty rare cars on there but the only one getting loads of comments is my 5,
any of you get similar interest in your cars, i find it quite bizzare that a car that was common place a few years ago gets so much interest:smokin:

i used my car to get to work a few times through the west end of london and cant belive the ammount of people that stare even at 8am when there still half asleep. the only time i realy get stopped is by the police the ones in london are not interested in the car they just want to nick you yet the ones in essex love the car and nicking you is secondary:goodJob:
ive had police stop me just to have a look

Best one i had is a 70 year old pensioner at the shell garage in market drayton, came over to me and asked if it was an original GT turbo, i replied yes and he took a fair interest in it saying how he could remember them in the rally days, its one thing getting youths like myself commenting on it but the older generation showing interest is a different kind of respect.

i could understand that though as they were pretty rare even back in the day when they were new, on a personal note i never felt the love for white cars and i could never get past them all being white from the factory though, (all except diana's that is) friend of mine did a replica of her black one in about 1990 using a rolled one as a donor and brand new shell loved the look of that, they realy should have carried over the styling to the mk4 rather than the silly arch covers they gave it

camera man was obviously a trainee as he failed to frame the car properly :sad2:

Sorry but it's just a crap escort in drag. I know the car has a lot of love and that people could just say the same of a 5 but given a choice I'd rather have a raider (as your name suggests) than an S1
Now I actually prefer the S1 to the S2 but even so....
Just my opinion.
I hope people respect that I have a clean standard 5 and I'm sure proud of it.
I may be biased but to me the 5 is the best hot hatch from the 80s

S1 Rs turbos are even holding there money vary well. At the mo can't see Renault 5 gt turbos being worth that much or getting any higher even raiders are sill at a low prices! Look at a mint s1 Rs turbo on eBay for around £15.000 mint raider ain't worth no more than £5.000
put them both side by side people with go and look at the s1 Rs turbo before they ever go and look at a r5 gt turbo!

What is the 3 wire trick then?[/quote]not too sure but think it did somthing to the ecu it was a popular mod back then and alot of essex lads used it, was told the s1 and s2s were restricted by there ecu but xr31 ecu was ok,
When driving the cup car down the motorway im always getting people (from kids right up to adults) waving and giving the thumbs up or a nod....Recently had quite afew people driving alongside filming me on their phones ! :D:)

None of my cars are fictional as you so call it I'm not going to keep putting pic on here just cos someone wants to look at it mate I can't be bovard
pretty much every single time i drive my car, I get either someone hooting at me with a thumbs up... or someone comming up to me when i get out of it... telling me its nice to see one around or its a lovely car.
I think we should start selling these cars for much more than we currently are. I think they are well respected, especially as they are quite rare. I think none of us should be seeling it for less than 2k tbh,, unless its a real mess.

absolute tons of respect from all different ages, mostly from people around my bros era (late 30s early 40s) and the amount of people on the road who just try and push you so they can see the car go is crazy
I have only covered 1200 miles in mine, ive had 3 different people offer to buy it, one was on the 1st day i had it out. The 1st time i jet washed it at work i had two different bloke talking the head of me while my jet wash credit was running out. Croft last year i had so many people walking past a 400hp focus rs to come and have a chat. The police have also pulled me over to have a look to which was nice.
Its great, its nice attention not like when i drove my evos.
I can not help but smile when i pop in the garage to get some milk, i just can not wait to drive it this year.
I prefer the series 2 escort rs to :cooter:

Repsect for a car isn't based on the fact of how much there worth or how well there built, that just comes down to demand and what people want to pay.
Respect comes down to apprciation and the way people chat to you about them, i have had god knows how many people talk to me when i'm out in my old 5's or in someone else's car testing it and they all love it and always want to know about them. Even had cars passing by tooting and waving, even though people think they blow up every 5 mins (we all know better) they still appriciate what they are.
For me the escort's are dagenham dustbins, never liked them but do apprciate that they have a good following.
Around here a fair few years ago if you had an Escort rs turbo and a Renault 5 gt turbo parked next to each other the Escort would have been nicked, that doesn't show me that the car didn't have much respect following them if they always went missing.
Just my opinions, for me most 80's hot hatchs demand abit of repsect as they will never be replicated or nothing like them will be made again.
Mark I agree about the 80"s hot hatch thing though Renault had a last fling with the Clio Trophy, I think the last of the hot hatches, but I have an axe to grind there:)
Never really had much reaction when driving the 5 apart from emptying a pub whilst sat at some lights once and also at the first WSR I took it too, the cars were being mobbed so was keeping my distance but needed something from the boot, as I walked away an old guy came up asked if was mine said some words and shook my hand.:)
It never cease to surprise me the run of the mill normal foke that want to talk about the 5. Most have had them or remember family members that had them. 95% seem to of had positive experances of them and all say they've never found a car that quite comes close to the sensation of fun from driving or being a passenger in one.
Anyway less of the normal raidergtt turn a thread to ****. Time to carry on with the positive thoughts and experances. Which I'd say seem to be growing as the years go on.
ive had various reactions over the years, many taking people for spins, and then there mates wanting to go.
Also various thumbs up or nods of appreciations, usually from 20-40 year olds.
Ive also had the neggative, been told how ugly they are, and how unreliable, and how much people would hate to own one.. Its usually the same people who only ever get to see the back end of it because there financed to the hilt shiny wagon cant keep up.

I love the box style all the 80s cars had, r5, rs, nova, etc etc, like marks says, these shapes won't happen again.. It's all curves and triangles. :(
I get an unbelievable amount of attention in the convertable (i dont like it tho, feel uncomfortable with everyone staring at me, its fine while im moving but hate it when im say in traffic lol)
The cossie 5 gets huge respect from every 1
I think people are happy to see a good clean non chav example of a classic.
Ive had people nearly crash trying to get a better look lol.
Its funny on the motorway to, i generally sit at 60ish in the slow lane and get plenty of people fly past, then slow right down staring at me as i go by, then they speed up and dissapear. Lol
I love the look of the S1.
mine gets loads, girls love it,had lots of proposals for marriage, knickers thrown at me etc...right pussy puller...:wasntme:

Can someone explain the word 'bovard'? Seriously as its doing my head in trying to think what it means.
Respect came in floods when I used to drive a white Phase 2; people would chat to me at the garage, carpark, leave notes with their phone number on asking to get in touch if ever I was looking to sell etc..... my grey one however gets far less attention even tho' its basically the same car. I don't know why this is but I guess it's probably because the white one stood out a lot more and tungy grey just matches the colour of the Tarmac.

today i was pushing my car off the drive, had a guy pushing his daughter, must of been mid 30's, stopped and asked if i need a hand, after pushing it off, he then turned and said is that a genuine gt turbo, thats a seriously cool car, wish my wife would allow me to have one, then 20 mins later, a group of hoodies walked past as i was inside the house they all stopped, starting to pear through my windows, went out asked if they had any problems, one stood up and said "NAH BRUV JUST CHECKING IT OUT PROPER CLASSIC" i just smiled and said ok, just dont touch the paintwork cause it will fall apart :D
even in a chavtasic paint job, no bonnet, interior all bunged in the back, half an engine and no arches or sidesskirts....still turns heads!
its a definite classic that all ages appreciate :)
Mine gets none as i beat it constantly :wasntme:
Is an Awesome feeling though when people appreciate your motor, trouble is you cant help but be a touch wary nowadays....:crap:
my turbo2 used to get 'nuff respect', kids, grandads, men, women. all good.
my mk1 le car 2 turbo (looks like a gordini) hardly gets looked at, which is odd, cos in this country its rarer than a turbo 2. lol

i think the le car turbo is something of a q car in as much as being something that only those "in the know" would recognise as being something special, i bet if you park it at french car show where there are lots of enthusiasts it gets more attention than a gt turbo would though, i used to have a similar thing with a 924 carrera gt, average joe assumed it was a poor mans porche with a bodykit, but those in the know knew better
Yeah, I know what you mean. I went to autosport international on thurs, and tucked up in the corner was a british racing green e36 m3- - was all over it- I knew it was a GT version, as Stu21T has or had one when I went to france with him years ago- only 30 made in RHD!!!

yep got a few comments at petrol stations 'dont see many of those anymore' 'they where the car to have when i was in my 20's' - from alot of olde rpeople - quiete cool comments, also the younger lot think its cool when they hear the dumpvalve.
But then you also get a few comments of people who knew someone who used to have 1 and it allways blew headgaskets etc. And another one... some older mechanics who talk to me at work when im working on mine and say they used to have a customer years ago with one and it kept blowing up etc as soon as i ask if the boost was turned up they allways say yes it was well fast when it was running, i ask if they ever adjusted the card when running more boost, answer is allways no:laugh:
