its basically ,the damper your buying , the brakets will have to be adapted to suit where you want to fix it to ;)

Mudslinger
22-11-2008, 15:48
im planing on taking it from my strut brace or strut top and using the bolts where the engine lifting lug is , im sure there will be some place thats not to hard to get it fixed to on your .

Mudslinger
22-11-2008, 15:52
im actually maybe considering get 1 fixed to the lower and top of engine but ill see how it goes.

id say on yours it would be a good investment ;)

Mudslinger
23-11-2008, 13:36
Ill let this run till tuesday then ill give them a phone and see what they can offer , the 1's they sell on ebay were £57.95 incl postage so im thinking we may be able to save a small amount on that if we got enough peeps wanting 1 , was hoping to have a minimum of 5

Funky power are the only uk stockists of these ive found , if anyone else knows somewhere else to get them from im happy to phone and haggle for the best deal .

Im really wanting to get 1 before the end of next week :)

Be nice to team,up and maybe get some sort of saving

Rich, I don't mind helping out on getting a group discount. I do the club discounts currently and having mails coming from an official address always looks better. Just let me know :agree:

something like that..

looks like a lot of work to swap the engine to inline though. I prefer Mud's suggestion.

:crap: youve lost me? the picture was just an example?

an inline engine rocks side to side, so needs a stabiliser that sticks out the side, a transverse engine rocks fore and aft, so needs a damper that runs front to rear. If you mounted it like your picture in a GTT you'd do nothing more than scrape your knuckles and make yourself look like a nobber.

minty83
23-11-2008, 16:37
how would you suggest to do it then? where would you mount it on a gtt engine or even my vag engine? like a stabaliser of some sort pushing against the engine from the front of the subframe?

you want it as high as possible, and attached to something solid. It's not easy to find solid places on something as thin as a GTT, hence the strut brace is a pretty good suggestion. Then attaching to the engine would need a bit of thought, Mud suggests the liftiing eye brackets, there, or maybe the plate that covers the water gallery on the end of the head might be possible. I'd be a little worried that it might lead to head gasket problems, dunno , just a thought. Maybe a bracket that pics up on the 2 top bolts that hold the gearbox to the engine?

I'd guess that you'd want it high, horizontal, in line with the chassis, and probably in line with the diff, well central between the 2 inner driveshaft joints.

As to VAG, you're on your own :D

OK ,im just of the phone to funckypower and the ebay price is basically the cheapest they would do them £49 for the damper kit and £9.99 for p+p

although if we could get 10 sales they would knock £5 off that .

not much but its something :)

Im guessing getting 10 peeps wanting 1 will be pretty tough :crap:

Mudslinger
24-11-2008, 15:49
we could also save a bit if we just bought the damper , but i recon these brackets could come in handy in helping to adapt a fixing point :)

The Volvo 480 with the 1.7 renault block uses some kind of damper on the side of the block to the inner drivers side turret. Noticed when down the scrappie the other day it's down the same side as the alternator.

Mudslinger
25-11-2008, 13:04
yup it sure does , there is a few cars that have engine dampers from standard .

but not quite the same quality as the NRG 1 ,there is also cheaper 1's on ebay that are used on nissan 200sx and the like .

25-11-2008, 15:35

anymore news on this?

Mudslinger
30-04-2009, 18:49
sorry not much news on this yet , ive made a bracket that picks up the 2 holes on the front of the block and the last 2 holes on the head using 3mm s/s , should work ideal with limited stress on the head just need to work out how to attach it to the strutt brace now and either paint or polish the brackets :crap: tbh ive not been near my car for 2 mths now its just been locked up in the garage due to me working 6 days and a serious lack of enthusiasm, ive still not got round to getting the boost problems sorted yet :(
