what poundage springs?

I have decided to rebuild my koni sport dampers but don't know what poundage spring to use. Has anyone found a good setup for the extra weight? I wad thinking 300 ish pounds.

Well I've gone for 380 on gaz coilovers, maybe a bit hard for everyday driving, but mine is for mainly track use, and still has the c1j in.

Maybe need something a bit stiffer. Mine will be mainly for road use tho and the odd track day but il just increase the dampening. Does anyone know what poundage the red springs are that come with the koni's as standard are? As il just go a bit stiffer than that.

Wow they are hard! I use 275 lb with the c1j, and they are great for track.:eek:

I'm using 300's with my Avon's and F7R, ok my engine is probably heavier but 300's do perfectly for road and track

I was thinking about 300lbs ish but james5 reckoned more like 400lbs but his was silly low:laugh: how can I find out what poundage my springs are as there's nothing stamped on them.

check out rally designs in the contact section, they do a large assortment of springs in various lengths and poundages , round about £15 each+vat:)

as regards to the red springs no idea:confused:, but i always thought most coil over kits came with 150- 180lb ratings:scratch:

i ran 350lb springs in the back of mine (rear engine) felt okay but still rolled a bit in gerrards at mallory, different set i know, but thats what i would go with on a fwd 5 gtt , compremise between the road and track:)

cheers handy yeah thats what im looking for a good compromise something thats not to harsh on the roads but works well on track with just turning up the dampening resistance. il look at rally designs i think a 350lbs spring sounds about right.
is there any way of checking the poundage of my springs?

if you cant find the stamp/print on the springs, and you can't find any info from the company that made /sold the mentioned items, then i would say not:(

oops read that wrong, you can get spring compressor /testing equipment that have a built in dial type gauge that somehow read the spring poundage,but not cheap,unless you know a local garage that happen to own such an item:scratch:

for how much the springs cost approx £47 posted last time i got a set from rally design, easier just to bite the bullet;)

i can only speak for the rd items ,but they have a in printed rating on the coil half way up the coil, if that makes sense:)

Yours didn't have an anti roll bar then did it? Plus yours had a lot more weight over the rear then as well.

I'd personally try 300's, dunno about Gaz's but my Avo's came with 180's :eek:

Mine too (180), they were quite good, but 275 i would say are too hard for the road really even with my dampers on soft.:scared: Unless you only use a and b roads. I normally drive on the lanes and moors and they could do with being changed for road use. Could be a bit stiffer because of my big ARB?

Traction comes from keeping the tyre on the road, if they are too hard then you will skip over the bumps and ruin your handling :coffee:

Think I will try and find out the poundage of my springs and see what they are like with new dampers. Anythings got to be better than a stiff damper one side and no dampening the other:wasntme:

Yep I also do a lot of back lane driving:D and there are a lot of potholes round here n all so don't want anything too stiff.

i have found the number (what looks like) 36151 printed on the spring. Anyone have any idea what that refers to?
