Ok, i purchased a full bottom end from cgb around 8 months ago now, well the engines all built up and will be going in the car in around 8 weeks or so.

My worry is , the prelube etc that they cover all the camlobes with etc, does will this not have moved to the bottom of the engine now as its been sat, or does it cling solid onto the componments , just dont wana damage the engine on its first start.

should be fine,it does not run off like engine oil, although there are different kinds of pre-lube like stp?...think thats the stuff.

why not get an old dizzy drive gear, grind the teeth off it, weld it to a bit of round bar and stick it in a drill... That way you can run the oil pump for a few mins before even turning the engine over!

However, if its been built with proper engine assembly lube it will still be where it needs to be!

can't you just turn it over on the starter with the ht leads removed?

issue there is that crank and cams still going to be moving, which is where the potential wear could happen, ashys idea with spinning the pump will get oil circulating before anything has moved at all.

Drop the oil then Refill it. It will cover a lot of parts on its way down.

there is very little oil pressure when just cracking it over, you may cores damage by doing so, your better off doing what car crash said and then just starting it. what Ashy says is the best way

Prime it up with an old dizzy drive modified to suit and a drill like ashy said :)

Its worth priming the pump too with oil filter off pour oil down the center of the filter thread thing. and if you have an oil cooler fitted fill that with oil too. ive had it before where oil wouldnt come through at all because the pump had emptied.

yep, it's happened to me too. 5mins i had the thing running and no oil got to the top of the head..... luckily i used vaseline to lube up the bearings on the engine build.

The drill method has never failed to prime an engine for me like, even from bone dry.

fit a decent oil pressure gauge if no pressure within say 10-15 secs switch off.
