The Volvo gearbox is supposed to be strong also has a slightly longer drops the rpm by about 200ish. Can also just pop the metal case off the jb3 and put the longer 5th in from the Volvo.
yes the kango box will fit, pretty sure its a jc5 variant, 215mm clutch/flywheel(not sure of the flywhhel pattern) you will need to move the bolt locators that align the box to engine, and the same with the gtt starter motor, also the speedo/signal from the gtt dash pob wont work either , but the kango box will be stronger than the volvo and have a better top end speed, had heard rumours of 150+mph on clio 16v's if your brave enough to take it that far:Dbut you will loose out on acceleration in the lower gears:( but if your aiming for 250bhp+ then might be okay:) they are quite cheap to buy also;)
running the turbo diesel box on mine from a laguna, its held so far, great for cruising at 70mph (2600rpm) :laugh:lower gears are not to bad either :)
just to add when my 5 was on the rolling road in fourth gear at 6600rpm / 121mph, so more than possible to 150 in fifth gear:) have'nt pushed it that hard yet ,got steering issues im sorting out at the mo:(

What Laguna is the box from handy? Is it the older shape? Does it have an electronic Speedo pick up?

it is the older shape 5 speed, speedo is wheel /sensor driven not from the diff/ gearbox casing, but either gearbox will fit straight on, just need to sort out the speedo .
