Do a direct access like I did at the start of the year and you will be able to jump on any bike. You have to do a theory test, cbt, mod 1 which is inclosed in an off road test centre and then the mod 2 which is on road test like a normal car 1.
Test cost around London vary between 800-1000 depending on if you buy it test by test or all in one go.
I did a 3 day direct access course a few years ago (before they brought in the closed course part of the test). It was reasonably challenging as you don't have a huge amount of time to dial it in and get your confidence up. I think a 4 or 5 day course might be better. Depends on your instructor though, mine was a right c0ck!
If you do direct access, I would nonetheless stay away from properly quick bikes for a year or two after you pass your test. :)

i'm looking to do mine, they do deals over winter so will cost under £500...
only thing i'm worried about is with new entitlement i'll be down to 6 points in 24months, and i already have 3, so one mistake and boom, loose the lot

Lol, just what i did, alpinestar power ranger, boots, suit, gloves and shoei lid, on a 1 year old r6, down the road after only 2 weeks
I was ok but very silly :ashamed:

I'm after a gsxr600 k4 as a first bike, and looking to keep hold of it rather than move up to a lethal 1000cc. I'll always prefer 4 wheels but a ped is nice for sunny days

my mate got a yellow 600 for his first bike - such a cool machine.
also rediculously fast
Im a fan of 600s to for a first bike, i had an r6, but like markey would by a gsxr k4.
I know insurance is always lower on bandits and fazers, just dont look as cool.
I sold my r6 when i realised a 400hp evo would slaughter it

As said before if you do direct access don't jump on anything silly I started off with a yamaha 650 dragstar cruiser and that wasn't to bad then I got a 900 ninja 143 bhp atrw and scared the s*** out of my self! Also having a person on the back changed how it handled completely! Cool in the summer in the winter having balls the size of watermelons is ideal haha
