What does the MOT man check for regarding rust on a 5?

Just wondering what they look at, as im thinking of trying to sort mine out, and then using it as a track car.

Well, all usual visable structural/load bearing areas, sills, suspension mounting points, floor pan, chassis rails etc Can only test what they can see with a tap here and there

If you need it to get through try to make it look like its not bubbling, grind flat and spray underseal like schultz. but it is tested for a reason not just to be annoying, if its rusty its reduced in strength, and if your tracking it then it would be best/safest to repair. Bear in mind the worst case scenario and your inside it and wish you'd repaired that little rusty bit.
