Hi all,

I have just got a new mot and tax, so now the beast can just sit there for a few mouths, till this is done, and I have painted engine bay,

I got a set of piston off ebay a few mouths back, these have dished tops, these look fine, also going to be fitting a 285 piper cam and pulley, I also have a gt tuning stage 5 head, with all the manifolds to match, going four a gt 28rs, maybe some hbeam conrods, this is the turbo GT2860RS - 739548-1 (http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/catelog/Turbochargers/GT28/GT2860RS_739548_1.htm)

as I am doing this as cheaply as I can, I got a spare engine a few moths back, that I have just started striping, it was a good runner before I got it by the way,

what should I be changing, would I be right in saying, if I change all the bottom end bearing, regrond the crank, refurb the oil pump, cleaned everything million times, what else should I be changing,

I am going to be going for a good 1/4 mile time, thats is it nothing else, 14.4 to beat, easy done, that was with shit tyres, shit shocks and spring, little turbo, lol???

Did you get just the pistons or did they come with new liners and rings too? If not i'll get some new ones. The dished pistons are infact low comp ones, personally i wouldn't use them for the engine but thats just me, i'd stick with standard comp pistons or even go for some forge ones depending on what boost yourt going to run.
I haven't seen any benefit of the in the H-section rods in the C1J yert so maybe spend that money on something else.

Sounds like your covered on the bottom end, check everything and replace the bearings and grind the crank only if needed though. Have the head check for flatness just to make sure, apart from that sounds like your ready for the rebuild.

you sound like youve got it covered mate,
just to add, make sure you slap asembly lube frikkin everywhere when putting everything back together, not too much no the crank journals though as it may lock up as ive noticed a few times when ive over applied the grease.
also make sure you slap a load of proper cam lube on the errrr cam!

give the oil pump a strip and check and ovrhaul if needed, also regardless if youve stripped the oil pump make sure you Pack it with grease[i use graphogen but suppose any low temp grease will do] this causes a sort of vacume to pick up straight away.
make sure you prime the engine before firing it up aswell.

take a look at these for reference if you need to -

Hi thanks for the repley
Yes, I did get rings and lines, will try and get I photo up of one of them, someone maybe able to tell me what sort they are,

not really sure on what sort of boost pressure I am after, was going to get it all done, put back together run it in with old turbo on, then put the other one I have sitting here ready, take it to the rolling road and see what they say I can pust it to, im sure it will take a few mouths as I still need a few things, like a better fuel pump, and the carb will need sorting out as I no little about these, I have got a ktec groupA carb body sitting here if needed, also a afr gauge lm1,and I have not got the bearings yet, not sure on best place to get these, bb tuning but must be able to get cheaper eles where.

that's a big old turbo, are you sure that's what you want to use? Which exhaust housing have you got? And is it a genuine Garrett one?

Hi matey

To be honest with you, I am not sure this is going to be the right turbo, and yes it is a genuine Garrett, think it has a 60 trim with a .64 rear ,
it is massive compared to a t2,
I have seen other car in the past at the pod, with turbo that look just as big, some peolpe tell you want they have, other like to keep it under wraps,
one thing is, I want it to be up on that broad one day ,lol
