View Full Version : c20let + external wastegate
Hello, i have just got a new turbo for my c20let cavalier, i got a tubular manifold, T28R turbo and a external wastegate but im unsure how to plumb up the pipe work, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Cheers.
Treat it like a 2 port actuator.
You can get it to run "wastegate pressure" (ie, the boost that the spring is rated too) by just connecting the bottom port to your compressor outlet, or boost pipe, etc. Leave the top port open.
If you have a boost controller with a solenoid then it'll go something like this:

Thanks very much for that, just what i needed, Cheers.
Love cavs get some pics up mate, I'm currently restoring a White corsa Gsi
have no fear....... Rtoc'ers here.... for when all the other forums say "take it to a tuner".
:)
I will get some pics up this weekend of the new engine bay when i take a few new ones of the mods ;)
Oh and another question on the wastegate, when the engine is running i can feel suction through the screamer pipe, is this normal or have i done something wrong?
Cheers people.
Can anyone help in my last question? as i dont want to bugger it up. Thanks.
You shouldn't be able to feel anything on the screamer pipe, there cant possibly be suction on that pipe, are you sure you're not just feeling it ? Tried holding a latex glove over it to see if it inflates/deflates(!)? It should do nothing at idle because the valve is shut. The only thing that might open it would be if you'd got manifold vacuum on the top port some how, and even then it would be chugging exhaust gas, not sucking !
I know what it is now, its just a sh1t. got it off ebay, the valve dont seal properly :disagree: oh well best splash out for a good one.
What do people recommend for a decent wastegate?
Dont write it off until you're sure the seat is sat right and that the valve is clamped up properly to the manifold (since it's this clamp that holds the valve seat in square).
But if it's just junk then buy a tial, turbosmart or other well known brand :)
If it's a 38mm, I think Handy had a tial one for sale....

Is your cav a 'proper' turbo i.e 4x4?

The only memory I have of a cav turbo is pulling past one @ ***mph in my brothers old tungy GT Turbo on the way to Southend, & lipreading the bods in the car going 'f**cking hell' blimey I feel old now that must have been 15 years ago or more :sad2:
Here are a few pics of me car :)
Right, took my car for its first spin yesterday and im only getting 3psi of boost but spring is rated it 9psi, my boost pipes are not leaking that i can find, so is it my cheap demond wastegate off ebay thats leaking my boost away? ive piped it up as per scoffs pic with the top port open. I know that when the car is running i can feel suction throught the screamer pipe which should not happen. whats wrong? i guess it the wastegate.
Can anyone shed me so magic light?
Those ebay wastegates stink more than Polish peoples ****. With no word of a lie, every one I've prerssure tested has leaked, even brand new ones. Not only that but I got given one for free and it didn't even have a seat for the valve, so I can only assume people are running them without.
Do as Scoff said and buy a decent one.
Ok cool, right does anyone know of any decent websites/places to look for one?
I definitely wouldn't have the screamer pipe facing that bag around the battery mate, its asking for trouble?

Yeah erm i found out the other day that i melted abit of the bag :ashamed:
I need to get one made up and pointed another way but it will have to stay there for now, but the wastegate dont work at the mo so should be fine :scared: i hope.
found this if its the real thing, if so its cheap!
