View Full Version : inner tie rod removal?

hi there went to fit new track rod ends to my 5 last week i did 1 side ok but the other is seized soild.
so i got a replacement inner tack rod end/tie bar ive took the rubber boot off and have attemptd to unscrew the inner tie bar by holding 1 side with 1 set of mole grips and trying to unsrew it with another set of mole grips it is moving but is very stiff and hard
my question is am i doing this right help? me please :confused:

There is a tool for this, but i cant rememeber if there sided treads?:confused:

Might be worth trying to get some heat into the metal, may help free it off.

yer ive seen the track rod tools on google but wich 1 would work on the renault 5??
thanx phase 1 so with persistance will it undo with the mole grips?

Its a conventional thread "lefty loosy" they are damned tight and tight to the bitter end unfortunately too. there are inner rack(inner tie bar) removal tools, sykes picovant do one i think its about £100ish pounds worth every penny in a garage but obviously expensive for a one off. the nearside is easier on the 5, engine in the way makes the offside awkward. I'd personally locktite the new ones back on too :D

its passanger side so have a bit of room but with the mole grips i only get a tiny turn at a time yer the removal tools are expensive so for a 1 off job not gona be worth it looks like its a battle between me and the tie bar then :laugh:

there is a locking washer on them that needs to be replaced once its broken .
