my mate went to the ring last week only to come back with half a car and a bill of £5600 quid  o my. he lost his car to. it was horrible to hear! cant belive they charge so much to get the car off the track.insane! and the guy behind him was in a rs focus who is trying to get more money from him saying that bits came off his car and hit the underneath of the rs!
i feel so bad for him its totalinng up to be expensive honda s2000-8000-9000quid nurburg fee -5600 and the rs cost -1000-2000 quid:sad2:
**** me thats alot. the good news is tho he got out without a scratch thank god!just cant belive it.
i saw a recent one a couple of weeks ago about an evo 10 causing an 8 car pile up on the ring and that cost the fella 100,000 quid  and his car!
think i best avoid the ring.
thats just unlucky..maybe....but trust me the rings safer than british roads..

it all depends on how you drive there realey.i found when i went with the crew in 2008 i did one lap and i was happy with that.if you keep ur eyes open take it easy and not give it too much you would be ok.i have a few close near misses but tbh it was prob my own fualt just down to bein on the track and cars flyin past me esp in the corners,i was in the wrong palce but u just gotta keep your eyes open :agree:
i do remember though just before the track closed there was a big crash with a jag, porsche and a biker i think and that was pretty bad, track got closed off then for the day.(i think coolant leaked over the place?)
sgnial left and right when need to slow down or get outta the way or if not try and make your speed and go with the flow when needed.also helps if you could go around the track with some one(thanks lomo in his v6:cool:)apart from that great drive to the ring and see the roads of europe:agree:

It's certainly a place where you misbehave at your peril!
Fail Dale had a bit of a bad do there last year but he only smashed up his £1000 3 series but then had to get a taxi to Calais! :crap:
Like said my mate smashed my Beemer up. Charges soon rack up especially if the track has to be closed. Luckily it was just Marshall and car time plus the recovery which my mate had to pay around £250 for that plus getting 4 of us back.
Being posted from Hannover in a great pub, off to Berlin tomorrow then depending on time poland.

By the sounds of it, the recovery fees have gone up (as has everything to do with that place). While I was out there last week (I heard of a smashed up S2000 btw :() I was chatting to a guy who's mate had to get his CSL recovered, and a bike that fell over on his coolant. It cost 700 Euro for the pair :crap:
I always wanted to do a trip to the ring, i was arranging it etc, then i read a blog by ben lovejoy i think his name was..
It basically summed up what a simple crash , or even just an oil leak can cost.. in teh end i decided to give it a miss full stop.

Ask the bloke in the RS to go through his insurance company for the claim... bet he dont have insurance.... nor will your mate.... but then it becomes a legal battle... I am unsure what the courts can do about something that happened in Germany on the Ring.
€5600 recovery sounds high... He must have damaged alot of barriers or had the track shut for hours.
Prices for Recovery, barriers, track closed time are on the internet... worth bearing in mind when your pushing it hard on track.... if it was a mechanical failure then its unlucky, if its driver error just got to accept it.
The Ring is a hard track, and if you bin your car its gonna cost you... unlike most UK trackdays where you can get Track insurance(often included with specialist insurance companies), you dont pay for repairs for the track....
I love the Ring, I will be going back, but I plan to do some UK trackdays in 2012.
You read stories about the 'Ring' pretty much every week. It was only last month a fatality occured regarding the Ring and a Clio. It didn't stop me from going and never would. Anyone that wants to go should just go, to make up their own mind on it when they're there.
For any petrol head out there i feel the Nordschelife has to be a place that needs to be seen, even if you don't drive the track. You can soak in the atmosphere just being in and around the car park of the Ring, the surrounding region is just spectacular.
The weekends in my opinion (German bank holidays too) are really busy, far too busy. I'm thinking the next trip over to be during the week, as long as the Ring is open to the public.

yep the track was closed up and he done a fair few barriers.left his slam panel in one of them :sad2: crazy stuff. i think steves right, just go there to enjoy it really, its just down to the way you want to drive around it. iv been there and on my first lap i saw 4 crashies. it really put me off but i went back the next day and done 5 laps which was great! just never thought i would hear of one of my mates crashing on there. it really brings it home how close it could be.
All this is chicken feed compared to what will happen if you seriously injure someone, especially if they have a high earning capacity, and they sue you.
No insurance means not third party liability cover! You could quite easily go down for everything you have (and some)..
This is by far the worst thing about the 'ring for UK users. Pretty much every continental European you see there has full cover throught their road or a track specific policy. Yet its the clueless brits that bomb round giving it the billy big bollocks when they can't drive to save their (or the other guys..) life.
Unless it was another one, I saw an S2000 parked up (read smashed) whilst doing a lap on the Saturday. Didn't look good, and I can easily imagine how many times the Ring till machine was cha-ching'ing!
Like I've always said, you have to give the track respect. Period. Unfortunately it would appear the majority of Brits think they're immortal & ignore that, given everytime I've been out there, it's 9/10 times a UK plate car that's being recovered back to the car-park.
And because of those interruptions, lack of clear laps, and the lap prices, it's why I now tie 'Ring visits in with a trackday at Spa Francorchamps. That, and also because it's one, if not the, greatest tracks to drive :)
If I go to the Ring again next year, it'll be via a closed trackday there; eg, Destination Nurburgring. Pricey for sure, but 'offs' are covered, you get unlimited full laps, and the max number of cars is limited at something like 80 for the day.
Yep, organised track days at the ring for me now. TF is.. pikey.

Pricey but like the idea of having up to 4 drivers and 4 passengers registered to the 1 car, if you're happy to share it cuts the costs. That would be a dedicated spares package for that day too, tyres, brake pads, discs. Still, if you're rolling about in a GT3 RS or 458 it's all in a day
:)
Tom/Ricky, you fancy it for next year? Dest' Nurb' usually run a couple of closed days circa July time, and again early Autumn. Price wise, you're looking at £400+ for the day.
Alex went in his CSL this year, and said the day was fantastic. Ten-fold better than TF days, and v-max'ing up Dottinger Hohe was something else

Yes, put me down mate. Deffo.
My brother and I and a mate will probably share my GT3 or Toyota- we had already been discussing a Destination 'Ring trip next summer. :) :agree:

Just noticed there is a £1500 deposit required for track days at the ring to cover accident dame to barriers etc... Its only a holding deposit but even so if you go of and damage barriers your still liable for them.. :( aswell as Recovery.
Is that 1500 the excess on the barrier insurance policy? i.e. your effective max liability
If so, good deal!

I'll see how it goes, I think next year the missus would like a decent all in holiday to make up for missing out this year. I imagine the last thing she'd want is a 12 hr road trip in a noisy Clio :D
