hello, does anyone know of any workshops/tunners/members who do work on 5's? would need access to spare parts and pref in the north west...

i bought a 5 about 6 months ago that was an unfinished project, with the idea of fixing it up and getting it road worthy myself.
i have owned a few fives in the past and with the help of fellow members (matt, phil, scoff, haz and robbo) got on with any work with few probs. what i didn't take into account was that my life has totally changed and with a full time job, house, child and lack of any propper tools or equipment and not having the luxury of haz an scoffs spare parts bin i have not got very far with it :( i have been getting bits and pieces of ebay that i need as and when they come up but progress is slow and i just want to get it back on the road now!

I would imagine that there may be someone to come and give you a hand if needed. If not then jump in and when you get stuck, post up on here and you'll have an answer quick sharpish I would think.:D

I can help you out with setting up the carb, even fitting and timing the cam. We will have to sort something out mate. (Pm)

As has been said above mike has probably everysingle part you can imagine twice over.

There's nothing worse than having a five that you can't use, we used to have so much time to spend on our cars, we took it for granted really.

Alright Rikki, don't think we've met... I live in Stockport and have my own workshop in Poynton. I used to work for PCS, R5 GTT's specialists in Scotland but I have since moved back to Stockport where I am origonally from. I have a pearl white PH2 I am starting to restore, a 19 16v cabriolet and a ph2 R9 Turbo in my collection. If you need anything or you want to call up to my workshop for a chat you'd be more than welcome. I know a few people on here in the north west, ROYZ, Alistair gresty, Casper etc... I've also had some good feed back on here from doing work on RTOC members cars.

Feel free to give me a PM :agree:

This was his old five, we went all the way to Norwich for it, it supposdly had a blown headgasket but basiacally who ever put the head on just didn't seal up the end plate properly:wasntme:

We went all that way in campus, towed said five round the corner, rang the AA and they took it home for him;)

Rikki did quite a bit of work on it before he sold it on, it was a nice five.

Thanks Andy, I've spoken to ricki a while back and offered to finish the car, I think it's more a case of sourcing the parts as I no longer keep much in stock.
Matt, same applies if you want to drop it off and I'll get it done, don't do working outside these days!
Phil, isn't that the 5 that I painted the front end on along with doing a few other bits? Nice motor that.

I remember in the 1st week of ownership when my bro had just bought it started to fall apart!
1st the radiator fan chopped through the top coolant hose, then the rear suspension collapsed then the engine bay loom set on fire, then the fuel pump failed, then the ignition barrell broke, then it wouldn't start! By this point and after spending about a grand I bought it off him for what he paid and it didn't miss a beat for 12 months of hardcore abuse!:D

Now my bro has swore to never buy another 5!!
I think it was running 17psi on a t2! It used to give bikes a run for there money upto 80mph!
Great fun car and looked

hello, yes i remember this well, i sold the car to fund a trip to see the family in italy.
on return i spoke to your not so happy bro who reported the 5 was at a electrical mechanics after trying to set itself on fire :ashamed:

in my defence, after sorting a few serious d.i.y errors from the last owner.......

like the wish bone ball joint popping out as i was about to enter the motorway slip road, that was down to a undersized pince bolt, ripping the cv joint appart!.....

i had never had a problem with it, and had just returned from a decent road trip to a club event without a hitch :). i felt like a right dell boy!

it was a nice looking 5, i'd be interested to find out what happened to it!? is it still in the club???
