Just been flicking through PPC Mag, and they have intimated that an engine swap in cars B4 1973 is ok, but after that you will need a valid receipt for it.
Anyone having issues with this? I know it will cause all manor of problems for peeps doing the popular FR swaps?
BTW - Smashing write up on the club :)
Last I heard you have to prove where the engine came from and have an engineers report on the fitment of engine

In my case I have had a spare engine for going on 8 years now which came with my car. I intend to fit this in a mini. Fook knows how I could prove this now? Engineers report - no problem.

I suppose the only problem here then, is possible tax fraud -
Andy , as mentioned an engineers report or a headed letter from the cars manufacturer, stating the engine capacity in cc and designated engine code, photocopy it(keep the copy) and send the original to dvla along with the changes on the v5 log book, and all should be good ;)
A basic engineers report is required to show the dvla as you will probably be changing tax band. I got a local garage to write a letter stating engine, cc's and engine number when I declared the van.

Dvla told me the report had to be done by the aa , but every time I speak to them they say something else. Yes it is prob only commuting tax fraud I will get it swapped over but think il wait til its running again.

I have done several now. You need an engineer's report, I get mine done at my local MOT centre, a written letter from the engineer to accompany the report stating his potion and qualifications on headed paper. Send it all to the DLVA with the old log book, MOT, tax disc and I also include a few pictures and normally within 2 weeks the new log book is with you.

And this is what they said.
Dear Mr Stott
Thank you for your email received on 6/10/11. Your email reference number is *******
As the engine is not a fixed component of a car, the engine number is not a permanent identification feature. If the engine is changed, the registered keeper should notify DVLA using the V5C Registration Certificate.
Please enter the new details in section 7 Changes to current vehicle on your V5C. However, before our records can be amended, it may be necessary for you to provide documentary evidence to support the change.
Documentary evidence is not required in the following instances only,
Engine change is an exact like for like replacement (same cc)
Vehicle was manufactured pre 1973 (historic)
Engine change is for a post 1973 to pre- March 2001 (Private Light Goods PLG) vehicle and the engine change will not reduce the rate of duty payable
Clio sport members who change there own engines but not anyone elses.
If evidence is required the evidence can take the form of:
• a receipt of purchase containing cylinder capacity information for the replacement engine
• written confirmation from your insurance company.
• written confirmation by the manufacturers.
If the change took place before you purchased the vehicle, written confirmation from a garage would also be acceptable.
The V5C and documentary evidence should be sent to DVLA. Only original documentation is acceptable and it will be returned after verification. If you do not have a V5C, please fill in a form V62 Application for a vehicle registration certificate* which can be obtained from the Post Office®, DVLA Local Office or for download from the website www.direct.gov.uk/motoring and return it with your original letter and documentary evidence to the address below.
If, however, you also need to tax the vehicle, you can apply at your nearest DVLA Local Office by filling in the form V10 Application for a tax disc (available at the Post Office® or download from the website), which must be accompanied by the V5C. You can find the address for your nearest DVLA Local Office by telephoning 0300 123 1277 (you will be asked to give a post code) or at www.direct.gov.uk/dvlalocal
If the V5C is not available and you are the registered keeper on DVLA records, you can apply to tax your vehicle at any DVLA Local Office using forms V62* and V10. If you are not the registered keeper you need to fill in and return form V62* to:
DVLA
Swansea
SA99 1DD
*Please be aware that there is a charge of £25 for a V5C, unless you are in possession of a V5C or the green V5C/2 "new keeper supplement".
Issue of the certificate may take up to 6 weeks if the previous keeper has not notified DVLA of the sale of the vehicle. A vehicle tax disc cannot be applied for until you receive the V5C in your name.
Please note that from 15/08/10 DVLA are issuing a new style V5C. Go to www.direct.gov.uk/buyerbeware for more information.
