Hi Guys, Are there any differences in R5 starter motors? I was looking at getting a used one on the cheap but have spotted these new ones. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Starter-Motor-Renault-Super-5-1-4-Turbo-04-85-01-92-/220514204809?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3357abbc89
Will this go on a phase 2?

It will fit fine list's it for C1j 788.

I have used a 1390 C3J starter motor on my C1J before without fault so another option for you

Cool, i think ill invest in this one and go down the new route so im not doing the same job again 6 months down the line.

The car still starts intemittantly but the other day wouldnt even give me a "click" turned the key the best part of 50 times to try and get it home, AA guy turns up and it fires up second turn of the key! :ashamed:

Does any1 think this unit seems a better option than a tested used item? or is it worth going genuine renault for £100?

The prob with 2nd hand is can be fine for 2-3weeks maybe and then pack in at least with a new one even if cheap it should have some sort of warrenty / guarentee on it. I would go with the cheap new one myself and use some heat reflective tape stuff on it to help protect it

that starter motor states "Number of Pinion Teeth=9 or 10". would this not be an issue if you had a different amount of teeth on the new starter? possibly damage the flywheel?

how many teeth do std starters have? not the slimmer uprated crap ones!

That one sounds like a good shout if you've tried and tested it. I've caved in and paid £35 posted for a "tested" used starter motor from cgb as i was worried about the number of teeth and mounting holes that sound dodgy in the listing i posted at the start of the thread, Need to get back on the road ASAP and wanted one thats guaranteed to fit.
