here are some pictures , im sure everyone will reconise this! im the new owner of it and im afraid to say it hasnt been looked after for a while and its m.o.t is next week. dont think it will pass :( so now it has come to a stage of a bit of tlc! :agree: i just saw it and couldnt resist!

the main problem are . . . .

-steering rack, need a new one:scared:
-carb , needs either a full rebuild or a new standard one.car idles at 1600 rpm
-rear shocks, leaking
-oil feed on the turbo leaking
-boost hose split
-downpipe and exhaust have holes in so its bolowing bad.
-gearbox leaking oil bad, hard to select gear
-engine mount a little worn :scared:
-electrics, no left indicator, remote locking only locks rear doors, fuel gauge doesnt work at all,no breaklights.
-roof lining hanging
- paint is pealing needs outer respray

these are the main issues lol :D

great points

-the underneath is mint only 2 odd rust points by the shock towers down the wing? otherwise superclean.
-interior is superb
-runs like a dream after 40 lol :D

heres a few pictures taken outside my mates house.it photos better than it really is

now if anyone can help with any parts or advice or fancys helping me fix it please pm or write on the thread. im going to try get it all fixed up and sorted for next year and get it back to the m.o.t centre and get it on the roads and keep it alive!
its a great car.plan on keeping it along time :agree:

an update and few photos

-turbo has all new seals/gaskets and new oil feed
-new rear shocks fitted
-water/radiator drained and cleaned out
-fresh oil and filters
-new tyres and my old turbines fitted
its a start :niceone:

loads to go.still cant find the reason why its idleing at 1600 rpm tho

still its looking better in the pics.will try get its buffed up and and lookin half clean lol
its looking quite pink.

Love it! I really have a soft spoy for the R9/11's. Take the carb off and clean all the jets out and see if that cures it. Failing that buy a carb kit and re-build :agree:

Great car epic , is good to see 1 in the club, like alex , buy a rebuild kit from the club shop , rebuild the carb and clean the jets , that should cure the problem:)

It's essentially how I plan my 11 to look when it's finished & rolling on the Turbine's i've had refurbed! ;)

cheers for the great feedback!:niceone:

thanks for the ideas on the carb.i have cleaned all the jets and have tried replacing them with others i had. still idles at 1600 rpm :disagree: so guess i will try re building the carb :scared: first time for everything i guess!

going to try buff it back up this week so will get some pictures up after. have noticed alot of laque peel - excuse spelling - think the main thing to save for is a paint job after i get it back on its toes for the m.o.t.

love this little car tho! rather enjoying it more than the five at the moment lol thats not good!only cause the five has a few issues.

can anyone help with the steering rack tho? would apear to be a hard part to find.:(

Need to find a free weekend to sort out the arches and make them sit properly then fit the bumper trims and petrol cap as they are now sprayed up. Sorted out some lowering springs through the company which should be ordering in soon enough once somebody else wants some part, carriage is about half the price of the items :crap:

hi Scotty...
I had my grubby paws on that car to look it over for the guy, student in Derby ...

Told him about all the things you listed, 1 thing I had spotted that I said may need doing for the idle problem was the "temp" sensor in the front of the manifold/carb base... this seemed to have a bolt loosely fitted so will cause a rather bad air leak, it had many minor issues all adding up to an expensive fix..

Steering rack... I didnt get under it but it may just need the rack ends, track rods... they unscrew from the end of the rack.. or just send your own rack away for a refurb, usually about £80...

ENJOY:)

Still have the part number built on our system but price could only really do as cheap as £75 for it plus surcharge

Turbo rack is different to a standard 9/11...

it's a "quick rack" so your better off sending yours away for recon or putting rack ends from Renault...

Yeah different part numbers on my work system. Standard rack is a 2/3rd the price of the turbo one. Will ring up the supplier tomorrow if you want and see what can be done for you.

right ok ,cheers for the info guys :agree: top stuff!

well this evening i went out for a meal with the little ladie then when i got back i took the carb off for a rebuild :crap: this should be interesting lol its my first rebuild! its all stripped down and cleaned at the moment. have ordered the a new gasket kit and have sorted the correct size jets for it all to be standard.its a good start  lol

so im going to follow the thread on the rebuild and then add some of my new learnt skills that sammo has showed me. will update this as i go lol

has anyone got any advice on setting the mixture screw back up ?
just to get it running nice.

o and the interesting bold that was where the temp sensor is has been sorted propperly lol not bodged up as it waslol it had a massive air leak! sorted now tho :niceone:

some progress.

air leak on the inlet manifold will result in a high rpm. vacuum pipes split.

r5_scotty
06-10-2011, 18:51
all air/vacume leaks sorted today! runs well :agree: just a small glitch as you give it some gas you get a slight decrease in power then its back on again?think i just need to get the carb setup propperly.but on a strong note the rebuild went well and it idles perfectly! top stuff :D its running a whole 6psi of boost! wow! all nice and standard engine.and so far the repair really only ow me my hours spent on it which is great. i think the main expense is going to be the rack and exhaust at the mo. but its on its way to getting an m.o.t. few more bits to do.

could do with some more info tho if anyone can help?

-front suspension? can i fit five shocks? phase 1 five maybe? anyone know?

-exhaust? was going to get a nice stainless but it would appear harder than i thought. any ideas on what exhaust i could get?as the old one is shagged.

thanks :agree: im trying but the paint was so :jerkoff: it needs a full respray really but its just to much money at the moment. so maybe next year :niceone: might have to start a charity for it , a donation pot to pay for a decent respray ;)

I am slowly putting it back on the road but have been taken for a ride sent a cheque off for some standard R9 hoses cheque has been cashed but no hoses and the chap will not answer phone.

So if you have a set of water hoses for sale for the R9 Turbo please contact me.

When I brought the R9 it had been stripped and missing most of the interior. Here are some pictures of it coming together.

Unfortunately not although I did know how it met its match lol. I'm sure it was you who came to mine to buy various shiny bits off of eBay a little while ago???

well a small update on the 9

was going really well steering rack sorted :agree: o.e boost hose uncut fitted:agree: new brake pads all round:agree: cleaned the seats and there looking mint:agree: new downpipe and exhaust ready to fit the weekend:agree:

now the crap bit, went to take it out tonight for its first drive in 3 weeks and nothing :(

it started then idled irraticly and died. so cleaned the jets as advised by a fellow member, checked plugs etc but it still ran like a bucket of ****e! gutted.

it runs lovely at 2000rpm but as soon as you drop the revs to idle it just conks out.

any help would be great, as if its electrics im not good at that. plus it doesnt help that im colour blind lol

if anyone knows where i can find a phase 1 9 wiring loom or tdc sensor please pm me asap as i really wanted to get this running sweet for an mot befor christmas.
