TBH fella your better finding somewhere who has a parts washer and chuck it all in there over night (most engine building places will have one) shouldn't think it would cost that much either.. That will get rid of everything including rust, paint oil etc and also give the insde of the head and block a good clean out :agree:

i use autoglym engine clean, and a portable steam cleaner, but engine comes out so often it rarely gets chance to get dirty :p

degrease the head and give it a coat of silver VHT, makes the head look brand new, and lasts!

The Autoglym engine degreaser is actually surprisingly good, I have tried pretty much all of the products out there on my cars over the years.

Use it on a hot engine, use a soft brush to agitate it and then rinse off with a fine spray of water.

Diesel or kerosene and a paintbrush work a treat of you don't have access
To a jizzer bath
Also if you can get jizzer (which is the dogs)
Steam clean it off well as paint wont stick to it

I've done this a few times with old header tanks, brake fluid bottles, works a treat.

I use the cheapo Astonish Engine Degreaser when I clean bays. It's 99p a bottle and is actually very, very good :niceone:

Like Markey b said, VHT paint keeps things looking pretty.
