View Full Version : A little disappointed
First post!
I just signed up to the forms to look to see if anyone was selling a Fuego Turbo as I use to own one and run a web site all about them years ago with information given for free
And to find out I have to pay £25 just to read the form where there might be something that I'm looking for is in a word, disappointing
You really should have the option for users to read information off the boards as this information was given to you for free so I don't see why you should be charging potential owners to look up information on the cars they are after or are interested in getting back into.
there are always running costs but I have been a member of the GTO owners club, SXOC, and we don't restrict new members.. they made their money from organising events and donations
Boards should be free as should be information
Thanks for your time

its worth the £25 any day of the week, i'm not sure whats restricted and what isn't, but alot of forums are the same, eg. cliosport.
if everything was free, there would be no national day, no pod, no shop, and a very basic website with half the information on
Unfortunately the majority of members disagree and since the club needs to run democratically it's run the way it's run.
I agree in part with your information argument but the membership fee covers so much more than use of forums (I guess thats what you mean when you say forms).
The club puts on a number of very expensive days throughout the year, hiring race tracks and drag strips for its members. It could not do that with donations and smaller fees.
In the past we've had open forums on a couple of occasions that I remember and it didn't work. It was almost impossible to stop idiots signing up for free and spamming forums, or causing a nuisance to others, and so that is another reason why it runs like it does. Sufficiently moderating a big open forum to keep it as good as we have now would take a lot of time and effort. Time and effort that club officials would sooner put in to organising events.
You have access to the general chat forum before you pay so you could have asked the questions there.
Hopefully you'll come to see there's a lot more to this club than a forum. :)
Ive been a member of sooo soo many owners forums etc.. and i can hand on heart say this is the only one where you truely get to see where that cash goes.
The information on here is worth so much more than £25.
there isnt anyone selling fuegos on here, and there hasnt been for a long time.

:agree: im a member of a couple forums and most of them have resrictions like cant access buying ,selling forums. more than likely to stop people conning people etc.
i see paying to enter a forum shows that you are comited to the club. :)
defo the best £25 ive ever spent.
Actually, on another tangent (even thought it's well worth the £25 :agree:) this subject is something we have been talking about reviewing recently. It's been mentioned a few times that perhaps a preview section should be available or access to view but not post in certain boards etc might be beneficial to gaining new members. We can discuss that in further detail seperately once we've picked it up again :)
coming from an ex area rep for Sxoc, I can tell you that they get most of their money from trader fees.

I think that this club is right in saying pay £25 it's sill a great deal for the money if you can't afford it there is something wrong for what you get it's a bargain :agree:

How do you mean, something like a free 30 day access, on a 'read only' basis?

Not trying to blow smoke up anyone's ass but the Rtoc is the jam, hell I don't even own a Renault turbo and probably never will but that won't stop me from re- joining every year.

... am i right in saying its £25 this year and £10 for the subsequent years? .. so after 10 years membership at the current levels he would of paid an average of £11.50..per year...... cheepo........:agree:

In addition to most of the posts above, I think the club is good value if for nothing else other than to know that it's not just your car that's fooked.
Always help at hand, witty banter and somewhere to write guff at 6.30 AM? Where else.

Hello there, I wonder if you can help me, I'm looking for a picture of a disappointed horse...
RTOC is worth the money, although there isn't much in the way of Fuego action tbh. Then again, where IS there a lot of Fuego action in the UK?

Little Britain??
Margret.
Yep but I was using a bit of artistic licence. The name Marjorie derives from Margaret :)

Of course, Matt Lucas also plays Marjorie Dawes on Little Britain :)

awesome technical comeback there! failboat back in dry dock
A lot of nice replies :)
It's nice to be reminded how much appreciation there is by the some of many for the efforts of the few. :)
I was just wondering if we could perhaps create Fuego board and have it free for the 6 remaining cars owners to use. :)
Are there less that that number in 25 Turbos?
People might start to argue the case for there own free niche board.
But would that matter really, if it only applied to about 12 people?
Perhaps we could have a rule that if your car drops to a number of less that 6 on the road the board becomes free :)
