View Full Version : Fuel consumption
k... im a lil lost right now. I put around a tenner of petrol... gets just under quater a tank.... i drive it... it does around 15 miles before hitting reserve... This isnt right is it??!!!! Ive already changed the carb,,, inspected the fuel lines from pump to carb,, but cant see any leak.
Is there anything else? could there be a leak which is un noticable yet affecting my fuel economy???? this has been happening for too long now! :S
i think its more to do with the cost of petrol... i put a tenner in my lawn mower and only get 15 metres

It depends how far you have gone into the reserve before you put the £10 in, I don't know the size of the reserve tank but I bet you a pound to a pinch of shi* it's more than £10.
Brim it and see how many miles you get out of a tank.

As I know the reserve tank is 7 liters.
How many liters do you get for £10? (I do not know the price in the UK)
its about 7.5 liters to £10.
I brimmed my car from totally empty and it cost me 66 pound for 58.3 ltrs
Gone are the days of sticking a tenner in now and then, more like 20 now

My '88 5GTT was about 54 litres from run out and stopped in the road near the petrol station to brimmed and waited for the air to bubble out and brimmed and few more times.
I also added about 54 litres but drove there that time.

I used this (http://www.torquecars.com/tools/uk-mpg-calculator.php)
All you need to enter is
How far you went
How much fuel you put in ( litres of £ worth )
Cost per litre
cool thanks :agree:
I worked out i get 21 mpg. Sucks!:disagree:

Its a carb fed , turbo powered car with no proper ECU. I wouldnt be suprised at 21mpg in an urban environment.
Having said that I managed 41mpg going to WSR 2011 sat at 60 on the motorway for 136mi ..
