In the green haynes manual, I have seen 2 different positions for the locating dowell. Looking from drivers side, there are two possible positions on the left of the starter. In different chapters of the book it shows the dowell being fitted in a different position.

Which hole do I use (:p) or will it make no difference??

Thanks mate but I am using the phone atm, I will have access to a pc later tho.

Reason I ask is, this is the second starter to die on me this month and wanted to make sure im definetly installing it correctly

I used the outer bolt hole last time and occasionally it made a horrible flywheel chewing noise.

The starter only lasted one week so im hoping its down to a duff starter I bought and not my diy skills :scared:

thanks modfather, very handy that pic :agree:

so the dowel and bolt are both situated in the red circled hole?

the last two starters I had fitted were secured using the yellow circled hole:scratch:

no probs mate, yes the dowel goes in the red hole and make sure that is the 1st bolt you put in and tighten up :)
