im just after some feedback from folks who run say a t25 with a std camshaft.?

are you happy with the way it performs?

im just sitting here arguing with myself on weather or not to buy a 285 cam. as im not one that like to rev to the limit.

yes i know that they'll make more power etc.

how much quicker do they make the turbo spool up?(T25, comp .48, ex .49)

what do they idle like?

personnally i think they're not worth the time/effort/money.there's no back to back comparisons either(that i,ve seen)!!:(

are you saying this because you have had one? or just for the fact there hasnt been a back to back comparison of these cams?

i never had one on a gtturbo, but i put one in on an older engine and the tappets were noisy, tickover was lumpy, cam cost was expensive ,low end torque was down(and theres not much of that in a gt)u also need 8 new followers!!for track driving maybe but ???nah!

Makes a big difference, but you wiil notice it more higher up the rev range. Have you considered a milder variant, in between the 285 and standard?

i have considered a milder cam, years ago i had this ktec powersystem cam:disagree:, ive got no idea if it was one of pipers but i didnt like it at all. it idled like a dog and i really couldnt notice that much difference over a std cam

I am.:)
I turned the boost up today from around 12 psi to 16 psi and the car pulls much harder and feels like it spools much better. It feels lively to drive I don't think you will be disappointed;)

I have a piper 285 cam to go in next week with any luck (need George's DTI gauge) so I can try and tell you the difference then.

that would be great:agree: post back here when you have the 285 cam fitted and run in. :agree:

you'll have no idle issues if you set a 285 up right.

I'll 2nd that I've had not idle problem with idle with a 285 and DD cam. the later has a bit of advance timed in. :D

:agree:

Piper 285 drives and idles as good as o.e, but with far better power gains on a decent sized turbo...if your building an engine to run some half decent boost/power you would be daft keeping the original cam.

Ran a t28 with a stock cam, not ideal but still made some decent power good enough for a 108mph pass
