Any rtoc member been to the ring?, only reason i ask is i would really like to go, mostly for the mission there and also to see the track, i would like to go on it, but looking into it (a lot) its a very unforgiving track , and if i either caused or was in a accident , even a pretty small one , the cost implications are huge , and im not keen on doing things that i cant afford.

but anyway just wondering.

Yeah, loads of the members have been, we do 2/3 trips a year as a club :)

It's an extremely unforgiving track but as far as I know none of our members have had an accident on there so far. Life's too short for doubts, get yourself out there! :agree:

Have a search on the boards for The 'Ring Trips dude.

More than enough info/feedback to go by on them :agree:

3 times over there. No major issues. Apart from split hose in car park, fan not cutting in. and thats it. Still took both my cars round the track. Well actually 3 of my cars have been round that track. Of all the times we have been there, only problem in our group due to going round track was a loose wire which meant a trip on the back of a recovery truck. Well recommend going over there and driving round the track at least once, its not like you need to race it. think of it more of a 1 way country lane

yeah, as Dawno says 2 or 3 trips a year. Im sure there will be one in the spring if not before. Tag along dude, it really is an awesome trip. It is an unforgiving stretch of tarmac though, especially for subarus

id like to go there too. the only thing that stops me is what to do incase of breakdown not nessesarily on the track but europe. who would you phone? what exactly are you covered for in europe, is there free recovery ro back home??
im assuming there are specialist places that cover you within europe?
im sure i read that recovery is something to do with how much your car is worth?

im sure the AA do european recovery, if i ended up on the ring u can be sure i will be cruising round and not going for a lap time, i would have a few track days elsewhere first to get a feel for the car on track

i think there is some sort of break down cover for europe correct me if im wrong?? is the ring not classed as a toll road and as such you can be recovered?

a mate of mine blew his lotus up at the ring and his breakdown cover paid for his flights home and paid for the car to be brought back also.:)

if you like i could find out more details about the cover. i.e who it was with e.t.c

We'll be back there next Easter.

ADAC is who you want for Euro/'ring recovery.

Damian,

If you fancy a peek, take a look at the details from our trip last month here. It details some of the travel plans and things like ADAC that Mart has mentioned etc, it may be useful:

i broke down on the ring, and had breakdown cover for europe, doesnt matter tho... they send there own recovery and you have no choice but to use it.. cost me 180 euros for 7 minutes on the back of the recovery truck:crap:

If you're with ADAC recovery, they'll tow you off the 'ring as part of their 'service', and thus, or so I'm led to believe anyway, you don't have to pay any extra/on the day.

Easter is 10th-13th April next year, and that's the planned first trip of the 'No bling at the Ring, 2009 ride on time' tour :D

Mart,

When does the Ring release its opening dates for 2009?

I think we should try and arrange the jollys early and confirm it then...

It's FAIR to say that the ring will be open for easter weekend so why don't we get onto the hotels & book early to avoid disappointment!!!

I'm certainly up for an early booking of one of the hotels near the ring or in Nurburg?

I will 2nd that Steve ;) maybe try to find some cheaper options - steak on a stone is great but not the cheapest place to stay :(

Mart know anyone who would take my spare alloys over Europe for me :D:D:D even if I may not use them ;)

Mart

Shoppers, the release dates are usually posted in the new year, and confirmed around February time.

As Steve mentioned, I think it's fair to say it will be open Easter weekend. Thankfully Easter is later in the year next year, so we shouldn't get caught out with snow again like we did at this year's Easter trip.

Are people gonna start whinging about money outlay if I speak to the Tiergarten & arrange rooms there? I don't mind Gunther's place, but I am NOT organising this trip with everyone staying here, there & everywhere like last time, so best if everyone decides now.

Regarding hotels, I know Shoppers did some work on contacting a few other hotels just for future reference, he may still have the info :agree:

Regarding Nurburgring trips maybe a mini article could be compiled with a cost breakdown for everything apart from spending money. Items such a ferry crossing/ euro tunnel, euro breakdown cover, route plan from Calais to Nurburgring with mileage etc to show people what's involved from start to finish.

The article can be copy and pasted to anyone interested :coffee: :)

Getting a feel for trackdays is a good idea before you go. Not least to get a feel for the limits of your car. But the 'ring is like no other trackday you'll ever do, it's crazy, bikes, vans, cars all on track together, no checks, no scrutineering, no drivers breifing, no helmets!
You get sunday drivers just pottering along checking out the views in their convertibles with 2 kids in the back seat while superbikes whistle past at 150mph chasing a GT3.......nothing will prepare you fully for the assult on the scences that is a lap of the Nurburgring. It's Awesome! :D

Great idea Ricky, I don't mind making on a start on that and then maybe others can add to it if need be. If Mart has time (and wants to) he may be a better person to do this since he's been quite a few times :agree:

yea a straight forwards cost listing and also equipment to take would be spot on, like i say a few track days for me to begin with , and then go for a blast round, defo up for that though.

Yep, I'll happily do that. Can you give me till after the weekend though, as I'm out & about this weekend. Will knock up something early part of next week, and if others want to add to it, that's coolio :)

Would be fantastic to have even more rtoc'ers out there next year. Given Easter is 5 months away, that should be enough time for everyone to save their pennies.

Given that the Tiergarten is a wee bit on the expensive side, and that Gunther's is a wee bit on the distance away from the 'ring side, I'll speak to Shopboy about other possible (nearer) hotels. Plenty of others to choose from in Adenau town or Nurburg itself.

Duncan Grier
14-11-2008, 14:18
Mart a load of the vx220 boys go over regular as well and have mentioned some really good places to stay with garages available for cheaper than the Tiergarten and right next to the track.

Will try to confirm details and rough prices myself early next week ;)

I have contacts of many hotels, also i have saved list's of what to do, bring, etc etc on my comp so i reckon i can make a article out off it,

Even have some where mart has given tips on the track etc.

I will contact hotels this weekend and get back to you...

I think the winnder last year was the big hotel in Adenau town and its track side aswell...

Was about €10-15 euros more than gunters over 3 nights.... not sure about food or beer cost but hey ho.

Gunters is cheap to stay, good food at good rates... beer's in the local pub are also cheap but maybe Easter is a good time to stay somewhere else...

  Dont worry Dale, not you mate. I was refering to some old couple in a VW EOS doing about 4mph with the grand kids in the back. The look on his face was something to behold, he went into the corner just as a couple of bikes went past him on the inside, a GT3 RS went past him on the outside, closly followed by us in Jaf's M3, all at the same time as some dude in an evo decided he wanted to do a bit of 4 wheel drifting.
