Reverse Light!

I need to sort out my reverse light!
I tried testing it by removing the wire from the switch on the gearbox and bridging the connection between wires.
This did not result in any reading but is should do right? I have traced the wires to the block connector and tried reading before and after the block and cant get any volts on the multi meter!?
I have checked the fuse. The wire seems in OK condition?

What else can I do to test?:confused:
