plenty to go at there dude..
ill be honest im very very happy i didnt take this car when you offered it me now . But either way, do the shopping for the bodyshop buying the panels etc, and let them get busy.
I'm using the guy I used before he's a good lad and knows fives very well
I'm using the guy I used before he's a good lad and knows fives very well
good stuff, just make sure it goes to a bodyshop and not a garage.. as the standards of welding between the two are usually very diffrent.
good stuff, just make sure it goes to a bodyshop and not a garage.. as the standards of welding between the two are usually very diffrent.
as i found out when my local garage tried to fix my jacking point was like sticky plaster welds as the guy said whos replacing them now said! they also butchered abit of the floor aswell
Plus the Bodyshop rang me to tell me to pop over to show me before they started which is good and honest :)
well the repair is on the way nicely
im hoping to have it all ready for FCS :)
stiil in the shop :(
however ive downsized from my 1 series m sport to a 1996 golf estate tdi so have more fundage to finish it off to a better spec plus play with the golf also :)

ok so set off at 6:30am this morn on the 250 mile journey to caerphilly in wales for some front seats! they didnt sell on ebay at 99p no reserve, so i msgd him after the auction and got them for free!! the bloke (marttn, not sure if hes in the club) thought i was mad for travelling so far... they are mint, except the foam has gone on the drivers seat leg bolster, so plan to replace the foam at some point :)
and on the way home i called to wolverhampton to a member on here called Carl, he sorted me some rear seats for a very good price of 40 quid very nice bloke who i plan to use in the future he has lots.of.parts new and used!

If that's a piston d/v for goodness sake get rid. Not because it's a d/v, but because it's the piston type. Can't be bothered to type out why.
Also, if you haven't already replaced that seat bolster (and just in case you didn't already know), the inner bolster from a passenger seat (i.e. which are usually mint), will fit on the driver's outer side exactly...

Cool :)
A diaphragm dump valve to replace that one in the pic will do nicely. The pistons are susceptible to sticking open or partly open, causing various problems, some potentially serious. Or just do without one.
I'm not a fan of dump valves mate- but think a modded 5 with Samcos would look odd without one- I'd defo listen to what trev said about swapping yours for a diaphragm valve

fitted the downpipe looks great then disaster struck :(
started removing the front struts and one of the 13mm bolts snapped... ok not the end of the world but to top it off i then decided to clean up the spark plugs (it had a 140 main before so i guessed they would be in poor condition)
plug nearest the water pump was insecure and had signs of it blowing past, and suprise suprise it wont nip up :( so i have bought a thread restorer but if that doesnt work then i will be very very gutted :( here is what iv bought that will hopefully save the day....

Those jacking points are almost a carbon copy of what mine were like last year! Fred Flintstone would have been proud of that hole that's for sure:laugh:
I to was amazed how the metal actually looked ok until you touched it and it just fell apart:disagree: 20+ years of rain mud and salt had defiantly taken it's toll.
Good work:smokin:

How did you get the bolster in? Did you take the pocket completely off or just the one side?
flipped the seat upside down, snipped the relivant metal rings off, ripped the whole bolster off. rammed new bolster into seat material, flip seat round, ram bolster into postion... flip it back over, pull the inner side of the bolster material rod/bar with some long nosed pliers and tie wrap were the old metal rings used to be... then the outer bolster bar/rod, put a long screw driver through it, and pry it round till the bar/rod sits under the metal frame like it used to. I am ruthless, if it breaks it breaks attitude, so if your material is weak you'l defo need to take more care than me

Yeh we need a meet somewhere buddy, really glad you decided to keep your beauty!
I haven't updated this thread for some time...
Well, it now has a 2wd cossie front mount, t25 hybrid, a replacement carb (standard jetting, and boost, will be re jetting for efi rtoc rr day) I have a jonny5 twin pod 'A pillar' gauge holder to go on, a bms enlarged downpipe and side exit exhaust in the post :)
Using the car for work, and touch wood it's driving a1... Although it would benefit from some new top mounts.
Plans? Well over winter, it's black samco's, possibly change the wheels, full respray by next summer hopefully by a friend of mine
Trying to save for a house, run two cars, two babies and the wife is a full time mum, everything is against bajjer, but she will pull through gleaming in the end!
Here's a few pics on ND, also have a vid of it on the rollers, will try add the link later :)

Figured I'd update my thread, not much happening.
Got sidetracked with another 5 I bought over winter, put most of bajjers parts on it and sold it to my mate.
So I'm left with a 5 that's in bits.
I have just got a house with a garage so il be updating this more now. Stripping for paint job over summer.
I have purchased refurbed doors, new genuine wings, bumpers, skirts arches etc. hopefully be gleaming like new this time next year. Here are some pics :)

So managed to get the crane from work, engine and box ready for out... I'm missing the ilet on the front of the cylinder head to lift the lump out and I don't trust the tow rope either, so been and bought a chain, probably lift the engine out after work tomorrow, gunna lift the car up with the crane after and remove the subframe too.
Been busy collecting panels! Many thanks to my good friend johnP for the majority, new parts include new o.e front bumper, standard rear bumper, sideskirts in excellent cond. standard bonnet, early scorpion side exit, refurbed doors, off shot I have, new genuine renault front wings, 2nd hand arches in excellent cond. ermmmmm new rear lamps and indicators, so plenty to go at :)
Once subframe is back on it's off for paint

So bit of an update to Bajjer. Sadly due to family commitments I decided to buy a finished 5. The wife agreed to this, but I had to break Bajjer to fund it, I also had to sell ALL my spares. So the majority of him was removed and sold as a rolling shell to a nice genuine guy called Geoff from Norfolk. He has mentioned he will start a new thread on here once he has joined. He has a 5 that requires a re shell. Anyways me a BAJ had a lot of good times and I was upset to see him go. I just didn't have the time or additional funds in the end to have him looking the way I wanted. Goodbye mate x
