I'll set the scene. I've got 2 labby's. and since i've had the older black one, on the field near our house where we walk, there's another labby that always goes for him.

We've always kept them apart and its been a bit of common sense between us and the other owner.

Now tonight, we're walking our 2 on the lead to the field and as we pass the back of the last row of houses before the field, a dog (didn't know it was THIS dog) comes flying around the corner with no lead or collar, goes straight for my female dog around the throat, but once he see's my 'dog' goes straight for him, grabs him by the rear leg, and starts to work his way up the back aiming for his neck.

I'm now loosing it as the wife is screaming, to see a young girl running behind the dog. I say in not so polite words to control her dog or I'll do it for her. she just stands there screaming. So as the other dog has mine pin'd against the wall, I get the boot into the dogs rear end. the dog lets go and turns to me. Now growing up on a farm animals have never scared me, but I can tell this dog is alittle different. I stand my ground and the girl grabs it and runs off with is.

I then find my bitch has a cut to her face and my dog has a cut to his inner rear leg. I turn around to find out where this dog is to find some noisey old git asking why I'm kicking a dog and it was only a play fight and to get over it!!!

After putting him in his place I start walking home hoping to find where this dog has gone. I then see the 'dad' coming storming towards me "ready to rumble" after his daughter has run home to say "I've attacked her dog!"

then the penny clicks as to which dog it is.

Now what do I do?? I've got 2 dogs that have cuts, ok luckly minor. but it could of been worse, and then as we're talking, eventually like adults, once he remembers I'm 6'2 and and twice the size of him, he admits his dog has a problem with my dog and another 2 on the field

neighbours in my street are saying phone the police as it could of been a child or it could of killed my dog

now if it had done it on the farm I know how I'd of taken care of this but..........

any thoughts guys

yes mate you did.. i got a staff cross mastiff.. proper family dog , kids and everything... being walking him in the same park off lead for 3 years now ... the other week two pitsbulls or something attack him, bless my dog as he did try to defend himself... the Polish women whos new to the park does nothing to stop them, so i had to do the same, put my size 8 straight into ones arese and lashed the other dog with my lead/chain... she goes "why you hit my dog" after some words i told her she and her dogs should be put down... anyway spoke to some other regular dog walkers had the same experience with the Polish bird and her dogs... we done a petition and went to the old bill and council and her dogs got put down.... some people got dogs for the wrong reasons...

I make you right y do these people have theses dogs eg staff bitballs and have no idea how to f**king control them and let them go for other dogs or kids then walk off as if all is ok! Its Beond me really is it's all the good dogs that get a bad name due to the bad ones the other week we had the same here in our local park two staffs set on other dog and killed it totally uncalled for yet but yet again owners with no control over there dogs that can be a killing machine

I'd report it fella, whos to say the other dog wont attack someones child?

Had the same issue near me
Someones dog was loose off lead no owner in site, attacked my westy whilst walking down an alley way.
Luckly my old man had his steel toe caps shoes on and the other dog took a good kick to the head when the other dogs jaw was locked around mine. not nice thing to do but when you love your dog you protect it like a child

Parents rung the police and they were fine even went round looking for said loose dog, my dog was fine thank god :)

I'd have done the same. My F.I.L's lurcher got attacked by a 'pack' of dogs that were off the lead, the result was he lost his back leg :(
If I knew the dog was local I may just inform the police in case it happens again though.
& it's not the owners fault really, sometimes dogs are fine with some dogs & take a dislike to others, it's the ones that know they don't mix well & still walk them off the lead that gets me.

I would go and see them!
say that you and they obviously both love your dogs and appreciate every dog likes to run free and exercise, but it's clear that their dog does'nt get on with your's,so could they please muzzle their dog when it's off the lead.

everyone's a winner then! the dogs may even become friends? i've seen it happen before!

I don't like dogs or animals - not my thing, but clearly you did the correct thing. The owner needs to keep his dog on a lead and possibly muzzled or get it put down. There's no excuse for having an animal attack another, or god forbid, a child. :sad2:

id have kicked the f*ck out of it:agree:

theres a guy near me thats got a white hard man dog, not a staffie but i've never been close enough to see it.. the dog went mad man on someones dog once so he walks it late, avoids anyone and keeps him on a muzzle.. the right thing to do..

i have a rottie, on the lead he's a tw&t and barks/growls at anything, but off he's as soft as puppy sh1t.. he'll play with the small dogs but flattens them and the bigger ones which always looks ruff.. the great dane put a few holes in him one evening and now they keep him away and muzzled, its a shame as my dog still wants to play and im not fussed about him getting hurt if he's having fun..

sometimes its not always the dog being a cnut that lands them on the naughty list, but some dog owners need to wise up and keep their nasty dogs teeth locked together.

this owner seems a bell, i wouldn't have come mugging you off, i'd have been asking you not to take matters further if i promised to sort it out:)

id report it to the cops... no delay they are much more aware of bad dog behaiviour now than ever... is it the dog or the owner? it doesnt matter a bad combination causes most problems in life...... many years ago a fella with a real handfull dog let a local teen walk it for a few quid a day... it wasnt long before the dog pulled himself free of the new walker and as good a killed two jack russels.. some ones family pet and pride and joy.......... the fella in your case shouldnt of had a dog in a public place let alone with a handler untranid and unfit to controll an animal of such srength.....like the former said could of been a child or some one who wouldnt think of a good boot to the agressive dog.....

All dogs should be muzzled in public end of!

Oh and i love how you guys with 'rottie's' and 'staffies' try to defend the breeds by saying there soft!? :scared: They might be with you untill one day they turn, or attack another animal/someones child. :crap:

They are dangerous animals which have a natural instinct on attack and survival. Very often in our eyes unprovocked although the dog will see it differently. If your lucky you may have a good ten years ownership without incident, generally if the owner isn't a dick head, but more often than not things happen and then its in the news.

Moggy i would have done exactly the same, and probably repeated the same on the owner!

jet (my black lab) is fine, Amber has luckly missed having her eye ripped out by, no joke, 1mm!

just cost me a fortune in the vets but they are worth it! but I'm off to the police station tomorrow as I need an incident number for the insurance.

but guess what...the girls mum was out walking the same dog in the same way as I came home tonight

cheers guys!

Rotti's and staffs have a bad name,, people say they are dangerous dogs bla bla... actually, all dogs can be dangerous. It just a shame that they are popular amongst thos who like to turn dogs into fighting dogs etc. You could make any dog aggressive, but its just that staffs/pits/rotti's are the dogs they mainly choose, as they have the 'looks', and i guess do have the ability to do more damage than a poodle. But i believe any fair size dog can do much harm. Its not about blaiming the breed.. but again the owners.

And also... sometimes when a dog goes for another dog, and is agressive towards other dogs, sometimes its because they are actually a victim or have been a victim from being attacked,, and then become cautious towards other dogs. They usually warn them off,, but not usual to attack them. Those dogs that go out to primarily attack, are usually those that havent been socialised. At the end of the day,, u just cant blame a dog or breed for much.....

You did the right thing mate. Im a postman and it is unbelievable how many d*ckheads leave their door open, gate unlocked etc.. luckily I have never been bitten *touch wood* but have been close a number of times. Some owners think its funny and just laugh as your physically backing away from the dog while its snapping at you :sad2:
I remember watching a documentary a few years ago where some vicious breed attacked a couples young baby and it was either seriously injured or died, think they were on holiday too.. the father went and found the dog later on, let himself into its pen and killed it with a baseball bat.. good man i say :agree:

:agree: Fair shout to you, absolutely the right thing to do. I am sure a lot of people would have done the same thing.

On a separate note, you have got to laugh at people who use animals as status symbols, its funny and pathetic at the same time :wasntme:

glad your dogs are ok. you did the right thing ive also had this where another dog comes at you and your dog and did the same went absolutly mad at the owner who was shocked his dog could be so aggressive as he had not had it long or let it close to other dogs :sad2:. he did offer to pay any vets bill or the such as mine had a few cuts to his face.
