first run out in the 5 today after its paintjob (pics up soon)
couple of minor niggles.
its had a brand new fully charged battery but the battery warning light on the dash was
on constantly for the hour i was driving round. could this be the alternator?

also its got a bailey dump valve which seems to want to dump/hiss even at really low boost, is this normal? are these known to have a soft spring?
i used to have a dump valve on my Ibiza cupra and it only dumped at a reasonable boost no all the time like this thing.
would a forge dump valve be a better choice? (or yes, i know, none at all!)

cheers
Rick

its all about the spring tension, try taking it out and stretching it a bit in order to up the the amount of manifold vacum needed to dump the boost pressure

Battery light could be down to the alternator not getting a live to the connector at the top of it to make it charge the battery.I've got a forge. Dv and that dumps at a few psi of boost .

if the 2 wires are the wrong way round on the top of the alt the light will stay on constantly.

Is it a diaphragm or piston typ d/v? Either way, I'd remove it.
