As per title I am trying to work out some thread types on my turbo oil feed as I have a GT28r and I have the special M11x1.0 core adaptor that goes into the turbo now I am looking for an adaptor to fit onto the -4an male end of this. I am obviously looking for a -4an female adaptor.

My question is how do I work the original adaptor size that fitted my oil feed so that I can find a suitable adaptor to connect the -4an to what ever my original adaptor into my oil feed line is / was?

Is there a way to measure, work out thread type, pitch how do I tell if it's JIC, BSP, NPT etc??

I understand that AN (Army Navy) thread is the same as JIC thread only difference is the quality of the AN being much better and stronger by over 40%

I could take it to Pirtek but with my hours I am working they are closed so unable to get to them.

Does any body know of or how I can work out thread types and of any links that give me advice on how to do it.

Cheers James

good luck with that...
been through exactly the same problems with our T28 and abandoned -4an as could not find anyone to mate it up to the original pipe work. they are just totally different and very few people have the requirement to mate up -4ans to old school plumbing. Our experience was there is no such adaptor on the shelf. maybe others can tell you differently, everyone i spoke to (hydraulics places, -4ans stockists) said mmm no such thing.

we ended up getting a m11x1.0 which was NOT -4ans on the other end and a second joint that fitted on to this and to our standard oil feed pipe. simple and effective. and it works. :-)

PS: you can buy thread measuring tools to measure threads per inch, pitch and even stuff like thread depth (crest to root - usually not needed).

my guages came as part of my axminster tap and die set.

Well all sorted,

I managed to get an anodised -4an female to -4an female connection from ebay supplier and I struggled to work out the adaptor to mate with my oil feed so quick drive to my local Pirtek in Crawley whom were very helpful and I got an adaptor for about £3.00 went 4/16 JIC male to 1/4bsp male (my oil feed connection type) and job done.

JIC is the same as AN thread type's:agree:
