WORLD SERIES BY RENAULT SILVERSTONE 20th & 21st AUGUST 2011

As the RTOC events are all early this year the World Series Renault event at Silverstone would be a great event for the club to support & give us a chance to meet up in August?

What is it?

For those of you who don't know about it, the World Series Renault, click HERE (http://www.worldseriesbyrenault.fr/en/calendar/silverstone/Pages/Default.aspx).

To sum it up It's basically a Free Day Renault put on at Racetracks throughout Europe and the UK's turn is on the 20th & 21st August at Silverstone & is a great day for you to bring the whole family too and experience Motorsport!

There is plenty to see and do if watching cars racing round isn't your thing, there are stunt displays, new Renault models on display, A small fairground (usually the old Waltzers & Dogems), A few kids bouncy castles & obstacle courses etc!

This would certainly be THE event to bring your family along to in 2011!

How can I be part of it??

Well as you are the Owner of a Classic Renault you have the opportunity to take part in the day with your pride & Joy!! :niceone:

There is a special collectors area right in the centre of the Silverstone Circuit and every year the organisers allow 300 collectors cars in to show off all the older models of Renault to the visiting public & it's a great opportunity to speak to people who used to own a car like yours & share their memories!

To exhibit your car at the event you have to download a copy of the registration form and send it off with a payment of £10 per vehicle.

The collectors registration forms have just been released HERE (http://www.renaultownersclub.com/downloads/WSR2011.pdf) and as mentioned the space is limited to 300 so plese make sure you get your name down sharpish so you don't miss out!!

By entering with your car to the collectors area you are automatically entered into the Concours Competition where your car will be judged in a number of categories:


1. Best Pre 1979 Renault Car - (excluding sports and modified models)

2. Best Pre 1979 Renault Sports Car - (all Sports & Alpine models)
3. Best Post 1979 Renault Sports Car - (all Sports & Alpine models)
4. Best Modern Renault Sports Car - (all Renaultsport models)
5. Best Modified Renault Car - (all years & models)
6. Best Renault Powered Car - (all years & models)
7. Best Competition Car - (all years & models)
8. Best Renault in Show - (all vehicles at the meeting)
The RTOC has been lucky enough to have two members win both their class prizes over the last few years AND win the Best Car in Show.

If you're lucky enough to win the Best Car in Show, your car is then automatically entered into the Meguiars Club Showcase Competition & you & your car are then asked to present at the NEC Classic Car Show in November where you are competing against all the other car club winners throughout the country (such as Ford, Ferrari, Mini VW etc) which teaches you a few things about how clean a car can actually be! :laugh:

But the event isn't all about cleaning your car! KrissyM was invited to take his Cup Car round Silverstone last year for a demonstration lap of classic Renault Racing Cars:

Can I make a weekend out of it??

For SURE!! And this is the best bit!!! In addition to the Event during the day on the Saturday and Sunday. Renault put a Gala Evening on at Whittlebury Park Golf & Country Club on the Saturday Night! :yeah:

The event is hosted by Renault UK and usually is attended by a famous star from Renault's present or past (Jean Ragnotti is usually there). The cost of this
evening is Adult £37.50 each / Child (14-16) £22.50 each and it is limited to 100 places only on a first come first served basis!!!

It doesn't work like that at the World series as it's a Renault thing but they do put all the different models in one spot so all the 5's will be together.

They normally accept applications to infield parking up to a week beforehand if there are spaces available and you get four (iirc) entrance tixs with that.

If you just want to visit the event then yes, if you want to exhibit & bring your car into the event then that will cost you.... :scratch:... I know

The Collectors area was not slap bang in the centre of the action this year. It was decided to position it a little bit away from the masses due to the complaint people were having about the hoards mauling the cars. The area had hard standing which was nice but felt a little removed from the goings on? I'd be pleased to hear other people's thoughts?? :)

The most obvious choice right from the start of the day for best in show was this simply stunning Black 5 Turbo (Not sure if it was a 2 or what?) with a maxi bodykit. Of course it did win the prize & the owner was chuffed to bits!

As usual the Renault Driving GOD that is Jean Ragnotti was there & we had to laugh as he's starting to recognise us now & always says hi when he see's us!! :D So we had to continue the tradition of an RTOC Photo with him! ;)

The Black 5 Turbo was a beauty though I had the misfortune(?) to be parked next to it, I may as well have not been there :) I thought the standard of all the cars was much higher than previous and the fact that we were parked a little out of the way seemed to keep away many but not all of the "less interested" ;)

I have had that car as my wallpaper on the computer for many of years think I took my one back in 2005, changed the wheels, put the sun strip on plus the red mesh but still looks awesome :cool:

What a cracking day, couldn't have asked for better weather, great meeting up with a lot of you and some nice 5s we had there :)

roll on next year ...as for the new postion of the collectors , i personally thought it was great..most people travelled over to see it because they WANTED to as julian has said...there wasnt shed loads of dust all over the cars and t was well laid out with us all together as opposed to broken up...

absolute amazing day from start to finish 200 mile round trip without even a remote sign of a problem, was a good feeling seeing so many people on the way there and back giving me the thumbs up etc its sure to say the old r5gtt gets some respect on the road.

good to meet some faces i know and also some new faces (andy bond,jesus and nick) roll on next years event we will defo be doing the whole wkend this time :)

Was a really good weekend :) Nice picture sequence Steve!!! Agreed, the area was much better than last year for the cars. Sunday was soooooo much busier than Saturday :eek:

The gala was great fun, as was the camping with Jesus, Krissy M & Matt. :agree:
