Hi all, got some compbrake eccentric adjustable top mounts on my 5 and the only position I can currently fit them in is with maximum negative camber if I rotate the mount the other way it fouls on the actual strut top part of the chassis.

I recall I think scoff actually cutting some of the top of his top parts away? any ideas or info anyone?

cheers, lee

i had the same prob,i take it you have ph2 suspension?because the mounts are designed for the ph1:(
i ended up going back to the ph1 setup

Yeah, the car is a phase 1 so naturally I had phase 1 shocks and top mounts. I picked up some coilovers which were for a phase 2 no problem just needed some phase 2 top mounts to fit them however for £30 more I could get a pair of adjustable top mounts instead of standard phase 2 so opted for them.

Only problem now is I can't actually use the adjustment! I'll get a picture up help explain better.

Ok found the picture I was after in Scoffs library

Hope you don't mind the linking!

The part that has been removed from the turret is what the compbrake eccentric mounts foul on.

Incidentally i'm binning my compbrake mounts for now as the spax don't have enough thread to fit them properly.

I don't know if it will help you but can use a sleeved nut that screws down into the bearing inner race. Do a google image search to see what I mean.

The compbrake eccentric mounts came with a sleeved nut however the spax coilovers I have do not have a long enough thread on them to go all the way through it.
To solve that issue i'd have to buy new coilovers specifically with longer thread so for now it's cheaper to ditch the mounts and use standard ph2 top mounts.

The other issue is the top of the eccentric mount fouls on the strut top and would require material removing similar to what scoff has done in the picture above.

and fitted

see how short the thread is.

Also the read arrow indicates where the mount is obstructed if you rotate it to actually give a sensible amount of camber.

Not that i'm keeping the eccentric mounts now but just for reference this is how much neg camber I have at the moment
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s4/tiff_lee_photos/Renault%205/IMAG0234.jpg

that is with the mounts set to max neg camber with zero change to caster angle. As said before unable to set the mount opposite way round as it fouls on strut top

That's exactly what mines was like mate,I even had a play with the camber bolts to try and correct it.but there wasn't enough adjustment

Thing is if I rotated the eccentric mounts 180 degrees it should take all the neg camber off or I could put a little neg camber on but then that would alter the caster angle +/- depending on which way I went with it.

Unless I remove some of the strut top however rotating 180 isn't possible but then i'm also left with the fact there is nowhere near enough thread on those coilovers.

To be fair your best doing the job properly and buying ph1 shocks for the front
(well that's what I did)
Or is it possible to re drill some mounting holes to ph1 spec(at base of suspension strut)
Saying that your still left with the short thread:rolleyes:

Once I get my standard phase 2 top mounts ill bolt them on with the stock setup, spring rubber donut etc and it will be all good, just means ill have to do away with the solid mounts.
