anyone else had this? doing my head in...

valve clearanced done twice, 0.2 and 0.25 as per haynes
cork gasket on timing cover as using vernier pulley

just sounds really tappy, runs perfect but sounds terrible

anyone have same issue?

it's normal,you should have heard my old 5 that had a cam that required 0.3 clearences!!

I think you might find the reason for that is the rocker arm face over the valve top has edges at the extremes of movement left there by wear over years with the standard cam.

Now your taller cam is moving that past the smooth even curve to the rough steep sides.

Over miles it gets quieter.

I presumed that's due to it wearing in.

Get them ground smooth and see if it's quiet then.

Though I never tried it, I did take the rockers in to get them ground but it was never done.
