I wouldn't worry too much about using fancy brands of oil in a C1J. Plenty of people have found out over the years that they run just fine on the cheapest semi-synth you can find. Pop down your local motorfactors/Halfords, and see what they've got. Just make sure you change the oil when you're supposed to, and you'll have no probs :agree:

Couldn't agree more! Halfords 10w-40 semi is what I've used for years for road and track use :)

I know carcrash has 4 sets, i've got 2 sets.

James, your c1j builds/engine swaps...you must be on at least set no.10

I do have a few unopened screwdriver sets  infact was a little dissappointed they were out of screwdriver sets and I ended up getting a 2 plug extension lead instead free this time

On a mildly tuned c1j any old 10/40w semi synth will do really.

I use Mobil super 2000 10/40w semi synthetic in my tungy gtt, seems to be really good stuff and cheap. The oil is always nice and clean when changed at 3k miles which must be a good sign. The cheapo 10/40 used to go very black in the same amount of miles.

In my van i use miller's cfs 10/60w fully synthetic, the engine is fairly modified & driven hard. Whether or not this is overkill is another question, but the motor is holding together very well. Oil pressure never drops off when hot like it used to with normal 10/40 semi...

Also a very important thing is fit a geunine renault oilfilter, or a fram ph4546 as some filters (the generic larger sized ones mostly) can affect the oil pressure a canny bit..

use motul 15w50 fully in orange 5, changed every 6 months (or 1000miles)

elf 15w40 or 10w40 semi in the OE grey one

always use genuine filter and always put new genuine sump plug and washer on

overkill? maybe
