Anybody ever fitted one of the chinese turbo's that are on ebay on to a 5??

Obviously a proper garrett would be best but was considering taking a punt on one because the price is so tempting.

Peeps say they are ok if you get the bearing changed for a decent garratt one:agree:

I've seen a lot of them. Mr Galvin brought one to me quite some time ago and I put Garrett internals in it for him, oddly enough the actual shaft was in better balance than a genuine Garrett part. It was the compressor wheel that threw it out, they don't balance them, atall.

However, the overall build quality isn't great, I've also taken apart others that have failed for unknown reasons to the buyer. Upon inspection the thrust bearing screws have been left loose, which has pretty much desroyed the turbo instantly. It's a total lottery.

T series turbo's handle balance imperfections far better than GT series stuff, but you can never gaurantee it.
