The more I look at it the less sure I am, it just looks well used! Nice new pressure sensor though!

Thing is it the turbo I've been looking for, a t2/25 hybrid for ph1. Guess I could get it and check it out: apparently it's a turbo technics unit, so I wonder if it's worth speaking to them?

Well turbo arrived and i'm not really happy, tubo looks well used; plenty of soot in the turbine housing plus its cracked (ad said unused and no cracks)

There seems to be some damage to the inducer on the compressor wheel, some seem to be bent over at the tips.

Good inducer tip

Slightly bent inducer tip

Another thing, this i cant see any machining marks for final balancing, apart from the compreesor wheel when manufactured.

Spec of the turbo seems to be:
compressor housing .48ar with 55 trim compressor

turbine housing .47ar, have not measured turbine yet.

Advice please guys

cheers

I've fitted/ran with worse in situ! :D

If you don't want to take the risk of trying it, see if you can get a refund now. If you fit it, chances of then getting a refund are slim & nil.

The turbine side seems to me a real T25 not a T2.
Is it really a T2/T25 hybrid?

Cant see where the tips are bent over. Looks to be manufactured that way.

Also "(ad said unused and no cracks)". It doesn't say it's unused. It said "never been used apart from this week when i put it on my car to test it".

Could a weeks testing have sooted it up? Probably.

As for the cracks, that's not on really but then most are cracked and unless they are severe it's probably not worth worrying about.

If the turbo works then it's not a bad deal for a £100 tbh.

Well it's a full t25( i think) and not a hybrid t2/25 for starters, the amount of soot and crack is very unlikey to appear after a trial fit to his car.

There is def some damage to the tip, just to put it in prospective if the comp whelp is out of balance my 0.1g, at 250k rpm the turbo shaft will have a 1.1kg load applied to it:rolleyes:

Oh not forgetting, no turbo technics ident plate!!

I happen to think a week on a car is not the same as a trial fit and that depending on the car, the crack, the soot and that tip damage could have happened during a week's ragging around (at up to 250k rpm as you point out).

However, these things are not in line with what was advertised (plus the fact he got the size wrong), so it all amounts to a refund by he looks of it. Sounds like you have already made your mind up.

So, get a refund based on advertising inaccuracies. :agree:

Btw, now I've realised both pics of the comp wheel are from the same turbo, the differences between inducer tips/shapes makes more sense! D'oh. I see your point. I thought they were from different turbos and thought the one with the more pronounced curve was the same all the way round. :cartman:

It looks like the bent blade has a small chunk missing from its leading edge nearer the center. Maybe the guy ran it without an air filter? That damage could happen very easily.

It looks about right for a 'used' turbo as it was described really? Its always a gamble with a secondhand unit, if you had paid big money then fair enough but for a ton, its not too bad.

well after I finished throwing my toys out of the pram, i gave the turbo a once over. Inducer was easily straightened and apart from the crack in the housing it seems a ok turbo.

So after a quick tart up:

I think the .47 rear is T2.
