just a quick one, got a 285 cam in now, looked at the new springs I bought, apparently piper ones, but checked them against my bro's set out his old engine and they are longer, even though they have one less coil than the OE ones currently fitted. has anyone noticed different types of springs before or have I just been 'had' :-(
here is a pic of my 'piper' and another uprated spring (which one of them snapped in my bro's old engine!)

any thoughts fellow rtoc'ers??
Easy fella, get a set of scales and a piller drill, stick the scales on the bottom of the drill, place the spring on the scales and then press down on it using the drill until its fully compressed, make a note of the weight shown the repeat with the other spring

my concern is more about them going coilbound, and dropping the valve and damaging pistons (again)
maybe catcams springs? they have 1 less coil!

Piper have 1 less spring than OE, Catcams from what i have seen have 2 less than OE

the ones i have have one less, the ones that broke in my bro's old engine had 2 less.. i take it even though they are taller, the fact they have one less coil means they are safe on my 285?

they will squish down when you have them in place anyway to be honest and having one less coil is what they are supposed to have to enable the high lift without going coilbound.
I am sure they will be fine Mark:D
