With my 5 needing plenty of welding work I am looking into buying a mig setup, has anyone used a gasless mig welder and are they fine for sills and general panel/floor work?

your wasting your time on gaseless, it will make more holes in the sills than when you started.

with the 5 being so thin and rusty they're not easy to weld, find some thin stuff to practice on, and don't start anywhere too 'public'...

Don't get a MIG with a live torch, I tried one for about 2 mins...

'live torch'? Sorry but I'm not upto date on welders, I did a bit of Arc at college in 1995 :D

Any recommendations for a cheap unit?
Is something like this more like it.

'live' as in if you touch the mig wire to earth it'll arc, slightly less cheap MIGs switch the current as well as the wire drum when you pull the trigger. I wouldn't know what to suggest, the one I got was a high-ish spec hobby job as I only have a 13A plug to run off.

your link looks reasonable to me, you'll need a better visor. I also bought a gas cylinder from a local welding supplies place, and they can fill it with CO2 pretty cheaply. Those canisters don't last too long.

I'm sure someone with a bit more success than me welding 5s can give better advice :)

Thanks Andrew, I'm in no massive rush to buy one.
