If you mean to run little more pressure you shim the relief valve out with a small washer so it puts the relief spring under little more tension

The relief valve sits behind the cap which is held in with the split pin on the base of the pump

remove the split pin etc and the spring then i think its a 5mm or 6mm split washer you need, then replace spring etc and thats it.

so does the washer sit behind the pin = pin-washer-spring.?

or is it

pin-spring-washer.?

and what size washer?

Same principle as making your fuel pump (e.g 2.5Bar) produce 10Bar :)

It is an old thread, but im wondering what kind of pressure increasment you get with such modification?

My take on this is that it only works for cold oil.

At start up my oil pressure was 6bar with Mobil1 0W40. The limit would perhaps have been set by this oil pressure valve.

After then, when warm, the pressure would drop to 3.5 bar, the limit set by the oil escaping past the bearings. The pressure valve now being shut I presume.

So a pointless modification? Maybe it's only there for safety, in case the oil is very thick or the filter gets blocked?

I recall a gain of 3-5lbs on a hot engine. Gained about 20lbs when cold.

That perhaps was with thicker oil that I was using?
