View Full Version : Air charge temp gauge
I've done a search and found a member made some last year, any one know of a unit for sale or a good DIY? I'd be nice to have a couple of readings, one before and one after the intercooler.
Hi I've got one it's a little LCD gauge off eBay about £15 works well n easy to fit
Have you got a link please? I couldn't find any myself.
£15. I assume that will be for the gauge only. Do you need a sensor too?
Ian S was the member who built/sold the sensor/gauge units. Cost a lot more than £15 but for good reason. Both the sensor and gauge are perfect for the fast-changing GTT charge-temp sensing application, unlike a lot of the cheap sensors and gauges out there.

Do some more research before spending any money to make sure it's not wasted :agree:
Search the boards for the associated threads.
I searched the boards and found the group buy thread for that, could find much else though hence why I asked.
I've seen the ebay ones in action there not a bad punt for£15 if you can win one just remember the fella puts a new batch on every other week so don't go biding silly money as there not worth it.
The gauges are slow reacting and would not show any spiking like my Ian's one but they will quite easly show up poor intercooling.
Thanks, I'll keep an eye out. :agree:
The sellas name is ooh.suit.you.sir (http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=air&_ipg=100&_os=C%7CD&_pos=SL30BL&_sop=12&_stpos=SL30BL&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282) and lists them for all sorts of cars. Just looking at the mo theres none listed.heres a link to the search I used

Do you know roughly the size of the gauge, I'm thinking 2, one before and one after the IC, are they a 52mm jobby?
I searched the boards and found the group buy thread for that, could find much else though hence why I asked.
If you found that already then there isn't much else worth reading on the subject. This is an area that's not worth doing unless you're going to do it right. :agree:
If it doesn't use a small K-type wire probe then it isn't worth a toss.
There are lots of cheap ones about that use a thermistor, like a green house thermometer but in a jazzy "go faster" gauge so it looks cool in your car. It won't tell you anything usefull. In fact, it'll lull you falsely in to content when it reports an aparantly acceptable ACT. I've seen thermistors say 35°C but a real K-type (which can respond appropriately to temperature hikes when boost comes up) says 60°C !
By the way, K-type is what a good tuner will use. It is the industry standard on dyno data-aquasition and it is what comes with the Ian S guage.

I've got this one in total with senosr for € 75 euro's
-50 to 1150 C
Does Ian S still sell the gauges?
