How about a 3rd option, use 12.9 HT bolts with thicker head gasket torque to 80nm and then never re-torque:D

I always retorque after a new h/g. Warm engine up to temp fully, let it cool down fully (at least 2 hrs, i usually do overnight) and retorque, reset valve clearances and your away. Its pretty essential imo, ive never popped a gasket doing it this way. ;)

I always do the 80nm torque once when stone cold and never had a problem with h/g failure other than my own self inflicted messing with the TDC sensor on my high comp engine:laugh::ashamed: made the same mistake twice Markey Mark will tell you:laugh:.

Always torque when stone cold, I also only do the tappets once aswell, I do oil my bolts aswell but not ure that really matters.

I used to do it this way, work out why you keep killing the gasket before you do it again, also down just bang it down to 80lb ft in one hit, do it in a couple of equal steps and always lubricate the bolts other wise you will never see the correct torque.

Little insight into proper nut and bolt torque, excuse the yank bloke

Cheers for that fella appreciated;)

Think gasket killing is coz of wrong info given too me...Done exactly as reccomended by K-TEC AND CGB...Was told too torque too 25lbft then go up in 10's till i reached 60,,then use very gently for 500miles and then retorque too 60..
An i am using 12.9 bolts:popcorn:

So Ktec uprated gasket..12.9 bolts,,oil the threads a touch,,Then torque to 80nm or 80lbft on cold engine??
And do it in two stages the torquing process or one hit??:coffee:
