View Full Version : Anybody know what these wires are

Just fitted a new stereo and found these 2 wires that caused my dash fuse to blow, hanging around underneith my electric window switches, where do they go??
One is yellow with a grey stripe the other is a pure black

No idea matey but one is prob and earth and the other a ignition live defo worth making safe if not using them

im not sure iva but i do have most of my wiring exposed so i can have a look for you tomorrow mate :)

They look to me like extra cables which have been fitted by an owner to power some ICE or similar. Best bet if you're unsure is to secure the ends in through crimps or such like so to avoid any lives touching ground. At the very least you should cut the ends off and wrap them in insulation tape.
The strand construction of the conductors tells me the cable is an industrial/commercial type of cables. We (electricians) refer to it as 'singles' and thus not standard automotive fitment. A good rule of thumb is standard fit cable has lots of very thin parts in its construction to make it very flexible and hard wearing.

i have had a look at my wiring and i do not see a yellow wire with a grey stripe but have found a plan yellow wire and a black wire which are for the heater fan, does your heater fan work :scratch:

Those wires were definitely added by a DIY owner.
