Please vote both for the company and they type of cover:
Classic
Modified
Standard

I've left it with no close date so it rolls on and on.

The poll doesn't let you change you vote but I can change it.

So, if you already voted, then renewed with a different company please let me know and I'll change the vote to the new company you're with.

That way we keep a track of what the current popular companies are :)

Shoppers tipped me off about Graham Sykes too

Clio fully comp, declared every single mod inc rollcage, coilovers, buckets, harnesses, brakes, powerflexed polybushes etc.

£494 with 7 years protected no claims

Sky Insurance wanted £950
Brentacre £600

Graham Sykes were very helpful and polite over the phone, highly recommended

HIC just quoted me for a 2001 Clio 172, standard with no mods, 3000 miles, £1500 value, protected max NCB:

£550 TP,F&T
£625 FC.

It's all about where you live.

I went through the list last April to get ins on the 1.1 litre Fiat Cinquecento.

They mostly quoted:

£600 to £1000 !!!! FC, 3000 miles, £1500 value, some mods. They are avalable used with no mods in good condition for £600.

HIC and Avira were the only ones to really try and get the sale. Quoted about £360. I went for TP,F&C with HIC for £220 in the end as I was already with them. Insured to drive other cars and agreed valuation, but they didn't honour that and wouldn't do the valuation. I got a terse refusal with no explanation. I got the impression they didn't do it for anything under £2000.

Ricardo
17-09-2011, 15:53
I actually couldn't believe how good the quote was, she read out the list of modifications just to make sure I hadn't missed off the rollcage for that price!

Sky said it was the combination of rollcage and phase 1 Clio 172s going through a bad time that lead to their high qoute. They just couldn't get near to Sykes and Brentacre

Not a Renault but I insure the Subaru with Aviva. My renewal with HIC was getting near £700 last year. Aviva, fully comp, protected n/c, mod's declared - £317.

This was much lower than the so called specialists. I'm ringing them in the week to add the 5 to my policy and I'll let you know :agree:

Last year I was with Footman James - fully comp, mods declared etc for £430 had the renewal through last week and they wanted £583  so I rang them to see if they could do it any cheaper and they said they didn't even do discount for RTOC members :disagree:

So after ringing around I am now paying £291 - classic policy, fully comp, 8yrs NCB, with all mods, legal and breakdown cover from Graham Sykes. Well chuffed. :smokin:

They also said they will sort out agreed valuation if I send some photos in too. Just wish I had tried them last year.

When I researched insurance last year I had to go with a standard company because I would not be storing it in a garage over night.

WORD of WARNING.

I have nothing but problems with Adrian Flux, denied recieving my paperwork TWICE, have cancelled my insurance, charging me over £112 for the remainder of the cancelled policy....

But would lower that to £48 if i took another policy out with them.... & that policy would now cost £457 instead of the £285 it was 6 weeks ago.....

Not going with them, & they can take me to court... & will post this story everytime somebody mentions whho to get insurance with.

I highly recoment Graham Sykes.

I've used flux for years and always been competitive and helpful on the phone for mods and changes etc.

however I've heard they are awful when it comes to a claim and actually paying out. touch wood I've never had to but I can't say it doesn't play on my mind, especially on the daily as it sees a lot of mileage.

as such there's a real possibility i'll be swapping this year to a competitor with a good rep for payouts for the daily and perhaps even the turbo next time if I decide to use it on the road more

It's looking like Yes at the mo.

Ironically, and somewhat typical, although not surprising seeing as it's me, I've just had a couple of renewal emails through regarding the Evo, and the cheapest one is a good £200 less than last year's premium, and that's without phoning around trying to haggle a cheaper deal

Mart
08-01-2013, 23:11
Well, after much phoning around, and trying all the 'compare' websites, the best I got was £274 - Fully comp, £4k value, 5k miles per year, protected ncb, drive any car, euro cover, legal protection, Bekki as a named driver, blah blah blah.

How the feck some people are getting sub £150 quotes beats me? I'm guessing it's a case of either third party cover only, no protected ncb, they're quoting a silly usage mileage per year (eg, <500 miles), their car is only valued at £50, or there's some serious BS going on.

Bigfoot
08-01-2013, 23:21
Like said Sureterm is not protected NCB but haven't got any on that car anyway. £5k insured for, 3k miles per year, dont need insurance to drive any other car as got that on another vehicle, and euro cover. Thats full comp and £95, will be finding out what the renewal is in a few months time. But think area I live in helps that a lot and kept on driveway.

Mart
08-01-2013, 23:39
Yep, by not protecting the ncb does net a massive saving - SureTerm came back with £133 for me, which is over half what Yes wanted, albeit their policy includes protected ncb.

Was v tempted to go with ST, but the ncb issue is a sucker punch IF you end up having to make a claim.

Yeah, I thought so. I was dreading what the cost of agreed value might have been,
but when you factor in the breakdown cover (not within 1 mile from home) I think
it's quite good. It's much less than when I had it on the road back in the day. I got
a shock when my R11T policy cost shot up £100+ to nigh on £500 for the R5
