View Full Version : charge temps
does anyone know the charge temps you would see using a pwr barrel chargecooler? - mart, did you test this out?
also, i read somewhere that the optimum temp is 39degC, i'm assuming much lower than this and fuel would not vapourise and would remain in liquid form/start the condense?
carb'd engine obviously....
My old man has one one his t2,and at 22psi giveing it some stick it never goes above 34degc (that's useing a spa gauge)
also depends on what size pwr you get aswell
lol with my old one I never saw anything better than 28 off boost or 60 on boost, 120 pre cooler temp and 15 ambient Ian S gauge 13psi. That was with the 4x8 cooler rated to 280bhp.

Mart did do a reasonably comprehensive write up if I remember correctly.

As cold as possible until you get carb freeze, then use some cardboard or black maskers to cover the pre-rad as required. I get carb freeze with my pace Cc and 2 pre-rads, flow seems ok with it too, the only issue with the pace kit is the pre-rads are fragile and not that efficient.

I did mate, but have no data to hand these days I'm afraid. It was a good unit though, and I'd have no prob's recommending it again.
Not sure why Logg's reads so high? Maybe the barrel he's using is too small for the application, the pre-rad isn't upto scratch, or there's air in the system? Dunno, but I never saw temp's that high on the Raider.
The key point is having an efficient pre-rad' (or 2), and making sure a good flow of cool air is passing through its fins.
Also not wise to mount the barrel near any heat sources. If that's the only option though, thermal wrap it.

the ex had one on her 5 (bigs/goobies old black one)
30's with cc on, 54+ with it turned off
well, the reason i'm asking is that im thinking of keeping the le car 2 a suck thru system, rather than going over to a blow thru gtt carb.
obviously i could use water inj to avoid dett. - straight in the carb top.
but im also thinking a unning the pwr chargecooler i have. - fuel and air would be going thru this, and im trying to work out if the fuel will condense out of the airfuel mix.
alot of websites say not to do it. - however im a big believer of trying it yourself first.
