First post!

Hi guys,
As an active member of various other forums (motorbike and hifi) I know that these places are priceless, though us new members can be a bit tiring for the more experienced poster. :p
Anyway, since I was 17 I wanted a 5 but it was never to be, various other cars came and went, and motorbikes now but I can't shift the desire to own a pocket rocket before it's too late!
My main question is one of budget I suppose, I was thinking of picking up something for around a grand and working on it myself, body work isn't a huge concern as a mate has a workshop but something that isn't rotten and runs would be a good start!
Anyway, am I kidding myself?

Cheers, Jack.

Hi mate welcome to the club.Your not kidding yourself if your going to try and buy a five for a grand which needs work.As long as your handy with spanners and dont mind getting your hands dirty your be ok.Like you say find one thats not to rotten but runs and start from there mate. You wont regret buying a five if you have always wanted one.:)

I don't think so. I bought mine 3 years ago, for £1300 with MOT. Perfect runner, good solid shell, but really needed a respray. Over the years I've been slowly improving it.

I'd recomend taking your time, and trying to find something as standard as possible. With tweaked / tuned cars, unless you KNOW the car has been done properly, chances are it will be covered in bodges!

I'd recommend buying from the club. You will know the owner cares about their car, and also, you can search their previous posts to see if they've had any issues and whether they were sorted :D

Thanks, the reason I joined up and paid my £25 was in the hope there would be a nice bargain in the classifieds with a sympathetic helpful seller. I've seen something that looks great over on renault5gtturbo.com and he's advertising on piston heads too, body needs cosmetics, locks don't work etc etc but £600 spent on a standard engine (cooling parts, head gasket etc). Looks like a good buy @ £1200 ono. Touble is he's a 5 1/2 hour round trip from me. :dearme:
I'll keep em peeled on the classifieds here, from what I've seen ebay is where a lot of the sheds get punted.

I know, I've been all over the country in the past for various things. I'd hate to go that far and find a god though. This is only 10 miles away but the styling isn't my kind of thing. (I'm 32).

Personally (and some may see this as being a bit harsh), I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole.

Headgaskets gone, paint is horrible, bodywork looks rough, engine looks heavily bodged together, etc. Would need much more than £1k to make that look pretty again.

Yep that's exactly what I was thinking, I'd like something that looks largely standard. Each to their own though.

The black one Johnson has going sounds promising. He's 3 1/2 hours away though! Saying that if it looks like a good car for the price I'd be willing to travel, I went 6 hrs to get a 300ZX=TT back in the day.

Guys, how do you set it so that I'm alerted to PMs by email, I can't seem to find the setting.

Cheers, a kind member is going to check/setup the fueling and boost etc for me on the way home with it, then the plans can begin. I'll setup a project thread once I've got it home and had a good poke round.
