can the water pipes on the back of the inlet manifold and carb be done away with do they actually do anything to cool the manifold and carb.

Yes they can be removed. I have my pipework to carb/inlet off, instead of waterpump to inlet, I have waterpump straight to turbo. everything seems fine this way - lower inlet temps slightly? But I plan on putting them back on later this year due to severe carb freeze on cold mornings up here
